Im kicking around the idea of getting anonther heli. I want a 500 size one bigger than a 450 but not as huge (and power hungry) as a 600.

Im fairly new and need a couple tips. Heres the setup i was thinking of getting

AR7000 rx
3xHRC32085 Hitec HS-85MG Metal Gear Ball Bearing Servo
401 gyro
2 x 2700 Lipo's
w/S9254
motor ???
ESC???

After reading up about the motor i think getting one that has a little more UMPH to it will make things easier for me in the end. High head speeds help create a more stable flight.... well thats the way i interpert it.

So my question is, would there be any flaws with this setup...
This would be my first kit.. My other helis are RTF (minsue the ar6100rx on my falcon 3d)
What motors and ESC's are you guys using?

So some other advice i would need is what are the other accesories i would need to put this heli together. IE cannon plugs, , any odds and ends i would need.

I started watching the finless build series and im learning a lot form those, but i still need to be steered in the right direction as far as actually gathering the parts i would need.

If anyone already has a built up 550 and can tell me what theyre setup is and the odds and ends they needed that would be awesome.

cheers

in mine im going with

-3X HS-6965's for cyclic
-401/9254 for the tail
-2X FP 3S 2500's
-I dont know what motor yet but either the Z30 or century 600
-Castle Creations 80A ESC
-radyheli has RCP CF 500mm blades for this heli that are supposed to be really good.

i just got an email back from them and they recommended

JR ds821's for cyclic
and
an align 75 amp esc

How do the FP 3s 2500's work for you? HOw do you think those will peform once you put a new motor on?

I dont want to spend 250 on one battery and then have to buy an expensive ass charger along with that.

you can use that gear, it all depends on what kind of flying your gonna be doing.

im gonna be doing hard 3D with mine when i get it, so power and speed are what i want for my servos, the 6965's are rated at 111oz/toeque and 0.8deg/sec at 6V. the Z30 is supposed to pull about 70A so im gonna go with the CC80 for its performance, weight and reliability. also the performance is top notch..

i cant tell you how the 2500's work becasue i dont have mine yet, ask finless i believe thats what he's using, he gets about 5 min of hard flying. so thats what im shooting for.

I dont think I said 5 minutes of hard flying. I get 4 minutes of hard flying and want longer which is why I was hoping to find a more effecient motor. If you just doing basic stuff you might get up to 5 minutes.
As you see by Matt's vids he is doing much harder flying and the 2500's arent giving him long enough time.
I still think a more effecient motor can be found to up that time a little with 2500's but right now it is looking like 3300's is going to be the best match.... Just my thoughts.

well if wouldnt the 3300's make the heli nose heavy?

what about the 6S1P 3700?

Move tail servo from chassis to boom on P-clips if you're too nose heavy. See my gallery for pictures of this - 2 x 3S3300 on mine and CG is perfect.

K so maybe i can learn something..... when it says 3 s 4 s all that stuff.. Does that just relate to how many cells are in the battery? And i was looking around online for 3300's and stumbled across this on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=3300mah&index=toys&page=1

is the 3s 3300 the one you are talking about using for the hurricane?

I mean im not even flying 3d yet. And really my heli i have now is just fine... but i want to expand and learn more about helis in general. And i think this would be a good heli to assemble. IE the finless videos i can follow (im even using a dx7). So its would be a PERFECT step by step for me. The only difference is i think i would wait on the zpower. Which is suppose to be in this weekend.

Thanks thoughfor taking the time to help me. I really do appreciate it.

2 of these:

i would still go with 2 of these batteries, just keep your HS around 1800, and you'll have gobs of flight time. plenty of hovering and training time.

i would get them from here:
http://www.grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/52465

they have great service and good prices

what motor, pinion, HS, are your running and what kinda flying are you doing and what flight times are you getting??

Ok so after much though talking blah blah blah... ive decided that im going to go with the stock motor and stock ESC. I dont even fly inverted yet on my falcon.. and i sure as hell would not take a newly built hurricane inverted before i started flying my smaller falcon as such.

So i think with the type of sport flying ill be doing ill be just fine with the stock setup. I am going to go with the 3300's, Jr-ds821's, 401 w/ s9254, and a AR7000 rx.

I think following the Finliess' model build and instruction videos will probably benefit me most. I'm psyched about this. I think im gonna order today or tomorrow.
