Nice Heli. I think I might consider getting this one. How much did it cost you guys to get it up and running. I hope it was cheaper than a T450. Anyway good looking Heli.

WOw for everything. ESC, Motor, Gyro, Servos, Tail Servo all 500$ bucks. Thats not too bad. Its kinda hard to believe. Where did you order the heli and parts from?

Hi !!

The heli is from Helidirect ( I won a auction for 220 Dollars at ebay ). All the other parts i have from different dealers in Europe ( Germany and Austria ). You can also get very cheap and good parts in HongKong.
Thats no problem.

so what are the flight characteristics like ie stability, agility, tail autority, climbout power etc. is this a good 3d machine?

I just completed mine. Even though I downloaded the manual, I found some of the linkage lengths to be wrong. Also, the pictures in the manual show that the main blades have leading edge control - this is definitely not right and once I realized it was wrong (initial tests showed +- 30 degrees of pitch) i set it up the normal way and it's fine. I just finished settting up +-10 degrees of pitch and picked it up to a hover and it's smooth as heck.

The quality of the kit is very good - the tailrotor is like a big $ gasser. A few small parts were missing but HeliDirect had them to me in three days, so no big deal. I like the way the gyro is protected and all the noisy components are far away from the receiver.

I don't like the super low, flimsy landing gear, of the fact that the tail blades touch the ground because the vertical fin is too short. I've got my own fixes for this, so no problem.

I'll see tomorrow how it really flies. I already like it way more than my T-rex 450, so hopefully it will live up to my expectations.

I just did a first flight hover test on the HDX500. The blades are perfectly in track, it's smooth as silk. It took a few clicks of cyclic trim adjustment and that was it. I flew it in Idle2 (100% Throttle) for 6 minutes, now I'll see many much power I used on the two 2100 mah packs I flew with. It never hit the lipo alarm, so there should be a good reserve.

Over all, it flies better than any of my other helis did right off the board. I like the way it feels on the sticks and can't wait to go out to the field and wring it out a little.

Hi there !!

Good to read that much more people check out the perfect HDX500. I have one since about 3 months and it gooing very very great. I fly it now with Kontronik Kora 15 /12 and a 4000 mAh 4S Lipo... It goes ......!!!!

If someone has good tuning tips or some Videos - send it. That would be very nice....

Cheers from Austria / Europe

I just got a 4s 14.8V 4,000mAh battery from Mega Power and took the HDX500 out. What a difference! I was just flying it with two 2100 #s packs and a new set of FRP blades, and it was kind of boggy. The blades felt spongy in the air and any 3D was definately out. With my old fiber glass blades (that look like Rotor Tech yellow tips) that came with it it's quite perky - almost like my Trex 600.

Next I'm going to try a 1,050 KV motor instead of the 850 that came with it and get som good carbon blades on it.

I wonder what pinion would work best with with 4S and a 1,050KV motor on this bird. Any experts out there?

The HDX500 with 2 3s 2100mAh packs is turning about 2125 on the headspeed. Today I tried the 4s pack and it was doing about 2640, quite a nice improvement.

Hi !!
Yes that it is. The 4s Pack is a really good solution for the HDX500. I also use a 4s 4000 and a Kontronik Kora 15-12. Thats really more than enought for that Heli. I use the 420 mm MAH Carbon Cevlar Blades and they are also very very good. A big difference to the gfk original once.
If there is anyone with news from the HDX500 --- write write write.
Cheers from Austria

i bought a hdx 500 about 4months ago. heli out of box comes built little assembly to do. i built mine with 3 hitec 85mg bb servos on cyclic, 9650 futaba on tail, 401 gyro, 80 amp CC speed controler, with hyperion motor 820kv (2700 head speed with stock gears). changed motor to a kontronic kora motor head speed is insane (3000 head speed with stock gears). stock main gear 94tooth and pinion gear 24tooth. this size heli is a great bird to fly it is very stable and has a very solid preformance. i like my rotoworks 450 trex but still a small bird very agile. the 500 size heli is very portable can fly in small spaces but also big enough when flying in larger space its easy to see at a distance. cost is very afordable to build. i fly this bird more often then my other three helis. i just love it. if you happen to have a crash well then its not as bad as you think parts are cheap and allways avalible at www.helidirect.com
this bird hovers well autos well 3ds great. this heli flys best ive found on a 4s lipo pack either a long stick pack 4100 (same as a trex 600) or two 4s 2170 in parrellel. if you are looking for a better preforming bird then i would look into this one. hope this helps
