WHAT IS THE ALL UP WEIGHT OF THE HELI INCLUDING BATTERY.LET US NO HOW MANY CELLS 4 OR 5.FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING ITS 1/2LB HEAVIER THAN THE LEPTON IS THIS TRUE.

It will take both 4 and 5 cell.
BUT if you go 5 cell you have to source a smaller pinion.
I think the stock on eis 24 for 4 cell and that should give around 27-2800 rpm no load.
A 16 or 17 will give about 2600 and up.
They are heavier than the Lepton, I dont have a weight for you though.
I can tell you that there is no way its a 1.5kg RTF heli.
G10 chassis is always going to weigh more than carbon, has an ally boom, again more than carbon, fins are G10 too, glass canopy is stock, Lepton is lightweight plastic.
For the price its very good IMO, and you get what you pay for. Its definately not a overweight heli in this size range really, and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Hi !! :)

I have one since about 3 weeks. Its really great and flying very very good an d stable also on windy days.
You can see some pix in my personal Galleries. Here you find also the RC Parts i am using. I am very :D with this great Heli.
The building was very easy and is working really very good with the manual you can download on HeliDirect. :)
With this settings you can do the first flight without problems. All other you have to set from flight to flight on you own prefered settings and wishes.

I use an 3S2P 4000 mAh Lipo and it is flying pretty good. Enough power for the most 3D Flights. Flighttime is about 12 Minutes in normal flight.
The only thing i use a motor with 990 Turns/min/Volt and a Motorpinion of 26 T and not the original one with 24T.
Does anyone else use 3S for the HDX 500 ???

If you have any question please feel free to contact me here.

Interesting HeliJoe. 12 minutes is impressive.

Assuming you stick to the 80% rule, that is an average of only 0.8 x 4 x 60 /12 = 16A @ 3 x 3.5V = 168W which seems quite low for a ~1.8kg heli.

Theoretical headspeed with your setup is 0.9 x 3 x 3.5 x 990 x 26 / 94 = ~2600rpm

Would you share your throttle and pitch curves ? Do you know what headspeed you are flying ? Are you flying the stock FG blades ?

If you have a flight data recorder (EagleTree, DPR-100 etc) it would be great to see some charts.

Hi there !!

Yes i have tested it with a flight recorder from a friend of me ( Unilog RC ).

I have programmed a constant Gas Level at 80 %. ( Futaba FF 9 CP Super )
I was also wondering because the data show me that i have stable about 10,6 Volt during normal not powerful flight with about 19 to 21 Ampere.
The head speed was around 2000 rpm.
When i give hard pitch the current climbs up to about 35 to 38 Ampere.
That says the recorder. I will ask my friend maybe he can give me a print of the data. Then i can send it do you.

I have a main gear with 89 T and a Motorpinion of 26 T.

My Hdx has around 1550 Gramms with the 3S Lipo.

I fly with the original Carbon Blades you see on the picture.

Thanks for the info HeliJoe (and greetings from Australia :) ). Sure is a nice looking heli :)

OK so 2000rpm makes sense in terms of lower than expected power consumption, it seems most folk run these in the 2600-3000 range. And 1550g is at the light end for and HDX500 as far as I have seen (1700-1900 seems more common).

For 250W @ 2500rpm theory predicts about 200W @ 2100rpm which is 19A @ 10.5V and it's always nice when theory and the real world agree ;)

Theoretical headspeed with your setup is 0.8 x 0.9 x 3 x 3.5 x 990 x 26 / 89 = ~2200rpm so your observed "around 2000rpm" makes sense. Where did you get an 89t main (I though both HDX500 and Lepton were 94t) ?

So with that setup and headspeed you are flying flips, loops and rolls ? Anything more aggressive ?

Let's get the full picture so we can compare to others:
Heli: HDX500SE
AUW: 1550g
Motor: ??brand and model?? 990KV ??g
ESC: ?
Gyro + tail servo: ?
Swash servos: ?
Battery: ??brand?? 3s2p 4000 ??C ??g
Main blades: ??brand?? CF 425mm
Tail blades: ??Plastic or CF?? ??mm
Throttle curve: 80% flatline
Headspeed: ~2000rpm
Hover current: 19-21A
Climbout current: 35-38A

Hi there !!

For the 3D figures i go a little bit higher with the gas curve about 85 %. So that would be about 2200 rpm headspeed.

My parts are:

wight without lipo is 1200g

Motor: X-Power Pro Torque 3025/8 Heli with fan 180g ( i got it from a shop in austria and he told me that is likely the same like the original motor of the lepton - only one for 3S and more rpm (990))
ESC: Turborix MBC Heli 60 A with 3A BEC 45g ( From rvmshop.com)
Gyro: Cocon GY 400 SMM Heading Lock 10g ( from rvmshop.com)
Tail Servo: GWS IQ-2010 digital 0,12sec / 60° 26g
Swash Servo: Robbe FS502 BB Carbon Gear 012sec/45° 18g each
Batterie: Turborix 4000 mAh 15 C ( 340g ) ( from rvmshop.com)
Main Blades: CFK Original Blades ( from the kit )
Tail Blades: CFK 68 mm ( Lepton Tuning part )

The main gear is 94 T ( sorry was my mistake ) that makes a theoretical headspeed of 2850 rpm.

I was wondering that the lipo hold the Voltage so good in the range of 10,5 Voltage.

Pix you can find on my personal gallerie.

Hi Kenneth !!

I have allready send you a private massage in case of the flight data. Hope you have got it.

I allready saw a new Video from Hurricane 550 here on the forum. Look at videos from Hurricane - it was posted today. They fly the Hurricane with a 3S 4300 mAh Lipo. Amazing ... they use a Century 600 Plus Motor. Do you know anthing about that. That could be a very good solution for the HDX too...

Greetings Joe

The 550 actually flies on two packs of 3s. Wired in series they become 6s, thats why the 3d is good.
