Anyone that's read my posts knows I modify everything eventually. The Driven Tail Swift is flying great. Mine not the Carbon 550. Let's call it the Plastic 520. It's flying on a Lightning 550+ and 4S pack with 520 stock woodies. I'm thinking this could be shortened up a few inches. I have 500mm blades coming. I am using the Century 80/100 ESC so I have plenty of grunt there. What do you, heli people out there, think about a 5 S pack on the lightning 550+ and backing down the RPM's a little with governor mode and possibly changing to the 8 T pinion(I have one)?????
All you hackers please respond. Gotta go for now as it's getting towards sundown and I haven't flown the new bird(drivenT) yet today.

I will be trying my swift with a 5s and the 550+ in about another week or two. From what I have been able to find out the 550+ is a zpower motor with a max rpm of right around 28000 which is right at th limit for this motor on 5s. I am a bit concerned that century has this motor listed as a max rpm of 20000 which is well under zpowers rating. So I geuss I'll find out one way or another.

Hey,
Just bear in mind guys the 550+ is only rated for use on 4s, using anything other than 4s will invalidate any warrentys.
For 5s power setups the 600+ with an 80amp ESC is the way to go.
Personally I'd stick with the 4s packs, 515~530mm main blades and have a great flying 30 size electric heli.
Altering the govenor speed to a lower RPM will not be ideal as the motor & ESC will then not be operating at it's most efficient, hence excess heat will be generated and duration will suffer.

I'm on 4S FP 3700 and Maxamps 4000 4S with 515 Rotortechs. Good flying machine! Not a huge 3D ship but quite a lot of fun for most stuff. More power and it would improve . The thought of 5S and the 8T is there. I just got 3 sets of GAUI 500 mm. they are a little wider than stock Swift blades and lighter by a bit. I can auto on the 515 carbons. We'll see with the 500's. Oh that is with MY driven tail running too so a stocky might do even better.

Ian, I am thinking that running on 5S, 80/100 ESC and 8t pinion at say 90% throttlle shouldn't be too bad on the 550+. I had 530's on my driven tail mod. Swift with the 550+ and 4S. It was boggy. The 515 Rotortechs on 4S are really nice ! quiet too. I don't expect the ESC to have any problems as it doesn't really get warm on 4S. I thought you had mentioned someone in UK was going to try this or had (5S,550+).
If there is a failure, and still an airframe to recover then, it'll get a 600+.
I still haven't tried the GAUI 500mm blades yet. They are considerably lighter than the 520 Century blades. I don't think they have a weight in them.

Anybody know the belt designation for the Swift? I may shorten/shrink one for fun.

Please do, and let me know how. I would love to shrink mine too. How small do you reckon you can or want to go?

The 600+ is just a fraction more in cost, but is far more versatile then the 550+, as one can use many different pinions to gear it for whatever battery pack combo and rotor speeds you desire. (Using 515, 520 and 530mm blades)
I have spent the past month or so testing it with a 11T & 12T pinion on 4 and 5 cell packs. This resulted in head speeds from 1650 to 2350.
My favorite for balance between run time and good 3D flight performance is the 11T pinion with 5 cell packs and the RT515 blades, resulting in a head speed a tad over 2000. It still does very well with 4 cell packs with a good head speed of 1650 with longer flight times.
With the 12T pinion the 5 cell pack results in too much head speed (short Yeehaw 3D flights of 4.5 minutes) and too short flights. But gives a bit better 3D performance and reasonable flight times with heat speeds in the mid 1800's.

Rav50, I've got two Swifts. My first has a 600+ in it. I replaced the P.O.S. Hacker A30-8XL with the 600+. I still ran it on 4S. I have 2 4S packs. I got a second Swift. I got a 550+ for the second to try and better utilize the 4S packs. I still run the first Swift on 4 and 5S packs. I've gone with many blade combos and pinions. I've used 515RT,520 Century,530 wood and carbon composite and 550 woodies. I can find good points in most every setup I've had.
Right now my first Swift weighs in at 6lbs,3 oz. with a 5S 4000 Maxamps pack,600+ and Raptor 50 landing gear.My second Swift is ,however, my pride and joy. It only weighs 5 lbs 3 oz. it runs soooo nice. I've got the 550+ with 9T and the RT 515 carbons on her AND my driven tail mod. This is a quiet bird.
This machine will rock hard with a 5S pack and 8T. As is it doesn't bog a lot in flips and rolls. With more power.......
I think I'll only take it down to 500mm size. Gaui has them. just got some at like 16 bucks a set. Shortening should aleviate the tail heavy issues that thes helis have always had.

I was also considering buying a set of those gaui 500 cf blades to try. I'm running the 600+ on 6s 4340mah (4 FP packs in series/parallel) on a 9T and woodies, and I'm not liking it at all. It feels heavy and slow. I was considering buying a set of the rotortech 515 but don't know if that will fix my problems and don't want to spend $90 to see if I will like it or not as opposed to the gaui's $50 500mm blades. As of right now my average HS is 2200 and my motor comes down too hot to touch on a 3 min flight of medium 3D. So I'm feeling stuck right now.

EddieNY The RT 515's are thin and sharp. They spin realllly easy. I like them on 4S with the 550+ and 4S with the 600+ and 11 or 12T. They are great with the 10T on 5S.
Where'd you find the 500 Gaui CF blades? That might be a good option for my possible shrinking Swift.
I've done the Driven tail Mod. I absolutely love it, cause it flies great AND I did it myself. Now I think to shrink.....
The 500 woodies were $16.00
Edit/added: are you using (4) 3S packs in series/parallel?
I think I would go to single packs first. I am considering my first 6S packs. If I'm not mistaken you should be able to run 550mm like no tomorow with a 9T. I fly 550mm with 10T and 5S 4000 for 4 1/2 min.
I think bat. choice is your first concern. For max performance as a standard Swift I believe it's 600+,6S,550 or 600 and 9T. Maybe 8T for the 600's
What blades on the Carbon 620? 620's? Isn't that also on 6S and 600+ motor or is ther a motor change for that one?
Anyone know that one?

Really, I had first setup my Swift with FP Evo on 5s 10T with the 600+ and the heli bogged too much for my flying style (stick banger), so that's why I decided to go 6S.
You can get them at here (http://www.readyheli.com/RCP_Carbon_Fiber_Main_Blades_500mm_Brand_New_p/rcp-rtc-500.htm).

Eddie, What ESC? My heavier Swift (6lb,3oz) has 55/70 mounted in the cooling air from cowl and wxhaust from motor. Hasn't cutout yet on anything I've tried blade/pinionwise. The lighter driven-tail has 80/100 Electron just tywrapped to front tray. I'm not worried about heat on that either. The motor has gotten hot but never scorching. The 5S is almost unboggable on 520 woodies and 10T. Head speed about 2100 on 11T. I don't know Century's recom. max on the stock blades but no failure of any blade I've used yet and The sticks reach all 4 corners often.
What blades when you used the 5S?

This is one way to keep your cool. 55/70 Electron and it has NEVER overheated 4S or 5S and 515 up tp 550's and 9,10,11 pinions.

I'm using the Align 75amp ESC with the the stock 520 woodies. Here's a pic of my current setup. Also used the stock 520 woodies when it was 5s.

Gaui 500 mm woodies on swift too light. Practice auto from4 feet almost disaster. These blades haven't got a lot of tip weight if any. All inertia lost in 3 seconds. I can auto the 515 RT carbons from on high.
