View Full Version : Sort Boom Conversion
I bought the 550 XES PRO SE (I have'nt aseembled yet) which comes with the short boom conversion and 500mm cf blades.
I thought the short boom conversion was for 475 blades. Are there any cons to the short boom (blade strike) with the 500mm blades? Also what are the advantages?

The short boom works with 500mm blades just fine. I think the original boom is too long for 500mm blades.

I guess thats is why mine has always flown better with the stock tail and 550mm blades. I dont do 3d so I figured it would help with the tail heaviness. I was right. it does cut flight time though. I think this thing will be sweet with the short boom and 500mm carbons. Anyone flying that
yet?

I have the short boom and short belt and am in the process of modifying my tail control linkage rod so it works with the short pieces.
I have some Mikado 500mm blades to run with the short setup.
Will post when I get mine completed.

thanks quickster. It flys well now but I would like to get rid of the sherman tank feeling with handling. I was thinking the short set up would probably speed things up a littlte. Let me know what happens
Thanks
Brian
Although I'm running a slowish servo on my tail through gy401 I also get that sluggish feel - the tail seems to have momentum when it kicks back !
I thought it was the servo- but it seems this may not be the case !
Quickster would also be interested to know what happens! pls post
thks

yea thats exactly what I was talking about- you just said it better than me. I have done delay and gain settings until I am blue in the face and I am convinced it just has alot of momentum once it is going. I wonder what the boom and tail weigh in comparison to others the same length and size? Maybe bigger tail blades?
Bclong21 - I initially thought it was tailwag as well and adjusted gain down - your right ! but i'm sticking with the momentum thing !Make more sense to me!

At first I thought was just lack of hs but for the last 2 weeks i have been flying in idle up 95% and get the same effect. Guess new tail blades are in my future.
