On behalf of IRCHA we would like to congratulate the Utah Helicopter Association on being chosen as the host club for the 2007 IRCHA Southwest regional event. The regional events were created to promote the hobby and to support local clubs in order to ensure their continued success. In order for the regional events to make the greatest possible impact they should be hosted throughout the regions. The board hoped the creation of the regional events would be met with excitement and interest from various clubs in each region. The Utah Helicopter Association was a successful host of the 2006 Southwest event and we are pleased do have them return for the 2007 year. Please join us in our congratulations and make plans to attend the IRCHA SW event on Sept. 14-16, 2007 at the Utah Helicopter Association in Salt Lake City, UT.

Whats the question? I will be happy to try and answer. I assume the squiggly face means you wonder why the name change? IRCHA changed the name because of some region boundary changes, we actually fall into the Northwest region in regards to IRCHA now. The funfly will be the same though :D How are you guys doing anyway?

Who is going to this?

I'm debating between this and Helis buzzin' the border. Unfortunately they are on the same weekend... San Diego is close enough that I could easily drive though.

Really, it's a shame about the scheduling conflict because I would have liked to try and get to both of these events...

I have added an updated Google earth map at the bottom of the event page for those that have not been to this field before. Go to www.utahheli.com/irchanw and scroll to the bottom to see the new images. It is pretty straightforward on getting there.

We will probably have a pilots meeting at 8 or 9 am on Friday and Saturday to get things going. See you all there!

Last minute details:

The gates will be open Thursday early evening for those arriving early or those that need to setup an RV. If you are bringing an RV, pull in and talk to one of the guys with an "Event Staff" badge on so we can get you parked and setup. Pilots meeting should be held around 9am on Friday and Saturday. The raffle has A BUNCH of great stuff in it, be sure to bring some cash to stock up on tickets and some BBQ

Also, please take the time to thank any vendors that are sponsoring the raffle and those that are at the event for helping out so much. These vendors supply us with our goodies and have gone above and beyond in supporting us this year.

The registration booth will be under the awning of my trailer again, near the front (you wont miss it once you walk by). Stop by and get your registration stuff taken care of, get your shirt, sign up for contests, BS a little, etc.

We have a scheduled full size landing on Saturday morning around 9am. Open flying for the vast majority of the weekend

Saturday evening around 5pm will be the raffle, followed by a catered dinner for all registered pilots. We will have night flying both nights - so bring your gear. I have my Mini Titan all wired up and about ready to go.

We really want this to be about the FUN and the hobby. Come on out if you are undecided and join us for a good time.

For those interested, the GPS coords for the field are:

Hi guys,

I am finally moving around again, a little worn, burned, and mosquito bitten - but smiling

We really want to thank you all for coming down and making the event what it was. It is the pilots that truly make an event a success and we couldnt have asked for better participants. Also thanks to IRCHA for creating this program - it is a great tribute to the hobby.

A big thanks to Leslie, Steve, Ryan, Nik, Jake, Duane, John's boys, Michael, and MANY others for helping John and I out so much this year. We couldnt do it without you guys.

Lastly on the thanks list, but not least, are the event sponsors. You truly made the raffle great, a bunch of great items were given away and we certainly hope those at the funfly will take the time to visit your shops and at least thank you. I think they will judging by the generousity you all displayed. Some Dudes Hobby and MWH Blade Graphics were both on hand with special event deals that most of us could not pass up . We really appreciate them for bringing their stores to the field. I will list all the sponsors at the bottom of this post. Thank you!!

We had a great time. The wind was strong at times, but the flying never really stopped. There was no real drama (besides a few seconds with a turbine ), no fights, no flight line hogs, etc. We all had a blast this weekend. I enjoyed the contests on Saturday - we really got to see some great young talents in the hobby!! The food was excellent, Rib City really came through I also had a blast with the night flying on Saturday with helibird and kingair - it was great watching them spot auto their little Trexes in the night. John also could not resist it and was sure to auto my Mini Titan a few times as well and it even still worked for me afterwards Really enjoyed it all. It was good to see some old friends from so many places and to make new ones as well.

Just wanted to thank you guys again for the support, PLEASE take the time to thank IRCHA, and consider joining them, for putting on these events and for giving normal clubs a chance to host them.

I will post some pics shortly, but I did not take too many this year and Leslie had her hands full with the kids much of the time. If any of you have some good pics from the funfly please email or PM me so I can get some of those from you for the club website. Post them here as well

FYI - We are already planning for a funfly next year, we are hopeful it will be an IRCHA event again, but if not - there will still be one. - Jim
