Looks nice. The landing gear is on backwards though.

Yes I've been doing it that way lately. The heli typically sits in a vehicle without the battery. Most of the weight is on the back strut and over time it will creep and squat. Putting it backwards allows better weight distribution while sitting (99.9% of the time) unless you hang the heli.

Nice, I ordered the Century motor and a Align 75 amp ESC. Now I am trying to decide if I want to spend $260 on two 3s3700 Lipo packs or $110 on a ten cell A123 pack.

That is the part I'm toiling with at the moment. I do hope they redesign the battery mount for 1 pack mount.

The new carbon frames look like they will accept one pack. Personally I am stuck running two packs no matter what frame they come out with because my chargers (CellPro) will only charge up to 4s. If and when they come out with the new frames I will just stack two 3s packs on top of each other.

Raydee, I am confused, you mentioned that you were considering a 10s A123 pack ? Or did you just mean 10 cells that you could make into smaller packs ? I think you would need at least 7s A123 on the H550.

I think the Align ESC is limited to 6S max. This will prevent you from using 10 x A123. You'll need a HV ESC for that.

No I would only be running 7s packs. It will cost me $110 to buy a dewalt pack that has 10 cells in it.

6s 3700 20c/30c lipo will give you more power and longer flight time than 7s 2300 16c/33c A123 at the about the same weight and twice the cost and approx 600g vs 560g. Weight-for-weight lipo always wins out for power and duration, it all depends what factors matter most to you. A123 wins out for safety, durability, cost, cycle life and rapid recharge.

Just curious if you have owned Poly RC cells and had some kind of problems with them? I have both Poly and TP and never had a issue with either. The poly's have a little better of a C rating unless you get the 30c Poly cells.

So I assume we will see Justrin slamming this heli around soon?

What prompted you to get this heli if I may ask?

i had one about 3weeks ago, and i had it puff after 4 flights. i never had that problem with Tp or Fp packs, a buddy of mine flys both Fp and Poly batteries and the poly's puff after every flight, the power isnt very consistent he says, miy pack didnt last long enough to find out. he has 3 that he flys and is waiting for a crash or something to give him an excuse to get rid of them.

WOW I have never ever heard of a Poly RC pack go bad let alone puff up. I beat the crap out of mine in a boat that pulls 120amps and they never come out of the boat over 110*. I was told that all Poly RC, TP and flightpower use the same Enerland cells.

Bob:

I am looking to provide Justin with as many capable helis of different sizes. This is so that he may form his own opinion of what is good and what is bad. This will also allow him to adapt to different helis and know that not all helis fly the same and different sizes of helis fly differently.
This will also keep him from being board of flying the same thing.

With that in mind, I've been looking at Leptons for long time but the part prices kept me from getting one. We have a Swift 16 but he is not too crazy about it so this is a perfect 500 class heli for him. When Trex500 comes out, we'll probably get that as well.
