this sucked i woke up all early to finish tweaking my pro..i get out side and do a slow spin up since i raised the throttle curve for normal mode at mid stick. the heli lifts off, feels like alittle trim would get it flying good. so i give it a nice punch and let the heli do a full power climb out to about 20ft. next thing i know i here this whizzing sound i cut the power back alittle and hear the tone whizzing sound go down alittle. so im thinki stripped my main gear some how..well i was forced to do a auto.. i only broke a set of the stock landing skids. the pro is really hard to auto...lol.. i dont know if i would call it auto. neways i hit throttle hold. by this time the heli is at 15ft give or take. so i go full - pitch at about 5ft off the gground i go full + pitch and it slowed it down just enough to keep it from smashing to the ground. i dont know how i got luck and didnt total the bird out . but my question is

has any one grinded a flate spot on the motor shaft and used a pinion with a set screw ? this wasnt the way i want to start my day..i was going to try and start moving the heli around from a side in hover..

On your brushless motor do you have the little plate that screws onto the motor attached? I've been wondering if I should keep it on mine (I just got the brushless stuff yesterday) because the pinion could go on farther if the plate wasn't there.

yes you have to use that. the motor will sit way to low and i dont think the motor bolts will fit with out the adapter plate. btw be suepr careful i stripped the threads on mine when i realized that the stock motor mount bolts were to long.. i had to find some others then use washer's. to get it to secure enough

I got mine on good with the plate on there, but the pinion still doesn't seem very secure even with some threadlocker...

its got to be pressed on.. rule is tho once you pop it off the shaft dont use it again..
you also have to hold the pinion to the shaft to see how far on the shaft it has to go inorder to get the most contact between the pinion and main gear

how do you press it on? I dont have access to a vice or anything like that.

oh man i end pulling my motor. setting it on a level ledge with the 3 wires hanging off the edge. i hold the pinion to the shaft and tap it with a wrench untill it holds its self on the shaft then i just tap on it alittle harder till it goes down. but a vice would be the best way..

Cool I was worried at first.

Ya, it doesn't give much instruction of exactly how to put the pinion on... kind of annoying. Which pinion did you guys all use, the 10t?

txflyer

8t
btw the neck of the pinion goes on the shaft first...

i used the 8th turns out the stock eflite radio even in idle up didnt even give 85% of the power..once i learn throttle curves on my dx6.. i had to get the mid tc set to 30% then it felt and sounded like when i used the eflite radio..then idle up was only maybe 90% with the stock stuff.. also remember the higher the head speed the more crap that breaks.. you will loose msot of the ability to crash, pick it up right, then fly again. with out replacing something..

mortificate learned that

yes I did learn that. lol. HS is great but I think an 8t or 9t will be fine. Don't use the pinion that come with the park 370 as I've heard they don't mesh well.
So, Tx is your Pro working yet?

i dont know, i replaced the 8t pinion last night before i crashed and havent had a chance to test fly yet

good luck man. was the pinion the only issue? didn't you have a problem with the throttle or something? or was the throttle issue due to a slipping pinion?

i dont know.. havent flown yet. but thanks for the help.. al you said was hmmm. then went away for 0minutes then came back and started picking my brain for your own problem :arggg:

I needed to sleep on it. LOL. Now that I am better rested I can help.

I'm gonna pick up an 8t pinion at my LHS next time I get over there then, I haven't flown my chopper with the brushless yet, cause I'm waiting on some parts, but the 10t pinion looks like it wouldn't work very well on the chopper, so I'm not going to attempt to fly with it on there...

ya dont use the pinions that came with the 370... you need a 8th .05 module pinion.. btw the 10th .05m one would give you a pretty high head speed.. but put the 8th on. then set your throttle curve in normal mode for the high stick to be about 85%.. its way faster then with the eflite stuff

85%!!! Malarky!!! 100% with a 8t pinion man. I have my 10t at 90% high stick and I am not even sure I like it that low. LOL.

if you slowly increase your hs
you will adapter to the heli alittle quicker thus also allowing you to figure out what feels best

hmmm, there is some truth in there. I suppose it depends on your experiance and where you fly. I used to do most of my flying in my living room and areas not much larger so I kept my throttle down for awhile.
Dang it Tx!!! Your right again. LOL
