After finding out I was too dumb to setup the 550 with FBL I went back to something I know FB. Did a couple of flights Saturday man did it feel good to see it staying in the air and me landing it.

The only thing I have to work on now is getting rid of the tail wag, seems the higher the head speed the more wag it gets. Running a GR780 gyro, I know others has had issues with this gyro but running the samething on my 500 with no issues.

Main thing to me right now it FLYS :banana

I'm not sure if you're aware as the instruction are kind of sketchy:
You can dial in a delay in the 780 by pushing the rudder stick slightly to one direction. Center is 0 delay and all the way to the side is 100%.
Thought I would share. Definitely check your pitch links to your tail grips as mine took quite a bit of work to get them working smooth.
I am running the 780 without any wag and it holds great on my 700. (7200bx on my 550)

Thanks help, will check the delay. The pitch links I have checked several times to make sure it is smooth and they are.

I've run the 780 on several Helis and first time I've ever had a tale wag, been lucky. But this 550 has fought me every step of the way and thought there in the 3rd round it had me, but I came back and got it in the air :)

It's logical for tail wag to get worse when headspeed increases. The tailrotor speed will go up with higher headspeed, just lower the tailgain.

What solved my tail wag (t550 flybarred/gp780) was...

1st-set delay to small helis

2nd- Change the mounting foam. i've replaced it with a Spartan foam+metal plate

3rd- Strap a velcro around it REALLY tight :D

Those 3 steps ended my tail wag and right now i'm with 60% gain on a -100/+100 gain setting :D (wich is a great thing :D)

The easiest way to eliminate tail wag with the GP780 is to replace it with a Spartan Quark. :YeaBaby:

I say that mostly in jest.
But in reality I was never able to completely eliminate the slight tail wag, with the GP780, on my T550E... and I like to think I kinda know what I'm doing when it comes proper setup.

I tried lots of different things but the only time I got a rock solid perfect hold was when I changed to the Quark.

I hope you have better results than me, and some have.
Good luck.

I took the 4 corner advice with my 780 on 700. I put a small square of gray 3m tape at each corner on the bottom of the gyro and strapped it down tight. I'm at 56 gain with dx7s (-100-0-100) which like 60 above is a pretty good number. It's possible.
I set it up this way from the beginning so don't know if four corners helps or not. I do know you can also set to large heli and add additional delay using rudder like I stated above. So you have lots of different options to work with.
We all know a quark will cure about anything, but it's really up to you and if it's in your budget or if you want to try everything first. I know I was pretty much stuck after building my 550
(broke) and wasnt going and putting more money out.

+1 for that, the Quark is excellent, wish I could get my Vbar tail gyro to be as good as the Quark, it's close but nothing I have used so far quite beats the Quark for a tail gyro. They say big things come in small packages, at least that's what I tell the GF.
