Any Freask, seen thoese new Stratus frames?
Quote from RR:
- the throttle servo now has plastic blocks to raise it
- the tail servo is in a new position to eliminate some parts
- frames have been beefed up in area's to improve streangth it seems
- predrilled for 140 CCPM

Have not seen the new frames if there is some.
As for the throttle servo, I have no problem with it being directly mounted to the frames now using the pem nuts. But I would guess the plastic blocks are included to move the servo away from the frames and have the output shaft more inline with the carb barrel.
Don't know how parts would be eliminated on the tail system unless it is mounted on the boom. Would still need the bellcrank and linkage.
If the frames are beefier, I would guess that a carbon is being used that is just a few more thousands thick.
All the CCPM frames have the holes now drilled to install the 140 deg CCPM if the customer wants to go that way.

Hi David
I geuss that we could just use the same plastic block for the Throttleservo, as for the rear swashservo...
-------------------------------------------------------
I just wonder:
Would still need the bellcrank and linkage
Many of my plankes friends has ask e why that bellcranck for the tail is there......mmhhh I can answar them... :arggg:

i have the new frames and the bell crank is now gone , the throttle servo has blocks to raise it so the back of the servo doesnt poke through the right frame , the frames are the same thickness as the old ones but they are cut differently to strengthen it seems , hpoe this answers some of your questions

The reason the throttle servo has blocks to raise it, is there is no longer a cutout behind it. MA have reduced the number of cutouts on the frames in order to increase the strength of the frames. After having seen the new frames, They look great.

I thought the niche of the Stratus was a lighter if not more fragile Fury.
In general terms, right now the Stratus looks like a Tempest with a Fury head and different engine/tank mount.
I guess what I'm getting at is, I have a Tempest now. What would I gain by doing a frame swap for the new Stratus?

The hole, over the tailservo, behind the tailboomclamps; is that for a screw to secure the tailboom?
With the new sideframes, it looks like the tail is more stiff, due to the bigger area around/under the tail, now the the holes for the tailservo is gone....
I remeber Curtis Y said (at 3dm) that one of the reasons way the engine on the Vibe has the head facing backwards, and the Tank in the front, is to get more material/area around the tailboom clams, so that the tail/frame are stiffer at the rear,,,,,

Behind the tail boom clamps would be the key thing. It may be a there to secure the tail boom. But personally I would not trust just a screw into the boom to keep it secure in that location. It is different when the screw is thru the boom clamps and into the boom. I do not know why that pem nut is installed where it is located. But if it is to secure the boom I personally would not use it.

Here is a picture of my Tempest. It seems to me that the Stratus has become a Tempest in reverse. Where is the jury on the new engine mounting system? Do we like it? Does it weigh less? What are the pro's and con's?
Also, I personally HIGHLY recommend adding a screw that help hold the tail boom in place. It costs nothing and I have had the boom back-out far enough the disengage the torque tube. I've done it to all my MA's. I wish I could take credit for it but someone advised me of this practice years ago. I personally do not consider it optional.

Bill,
I personally prefer the engine mounting system on the Stratus.
There really is no aluminum mounting parts, so I would guess it is lighter.
Pro's Easier to align the engine to the clutch driver, The gap between the clutch driver and fan hub is set when the top and bottom frames go together.
Only con I can think of , is the top and bottom frames have to be separated to get to the engine. Don't really think of it as a con, because it is only about 4 bolts and they can be separated. I can take it apart quicker than I can take the motor out of a Tempest.
The screw in the boom clamps to hold the tail boom is from the very early Xcell days. The first 1001 kit I built had that in the instructions. That was using a metal boom, carbon fiber booms were not even thought of then. LOL

Thanks David...
I explored doing a conversion to my Tempest but ended up ordering a new Stratus kit from Ron/Nathan instead. It should be here in a day or two. My Tempest is 12# ready to fly/no fuel. We'll see how the Stratus does.
I'm holding 3 new BLS451 servos with two BLS251's on back order. Should be a nice test of the new technology.
