My Heli is working fine, I use a 401 on my Trex SE programed with gear switch set to gyro but the gear switch won't switch the gyro between HH and norm. The only way I can switch it is to chance the "1" to "o" in the program I want to use the gear switch on the TX.

Sounds like you need to adjust the percentage points on the other side when you flip the switch. For example only.
The percentage points may be 100% with the switch one direction. When you flip the switch the other direction the precentage points would need to be -100%.

Just a guess, but one side may need to be positive and the other side negative.

Or the other is that 0-50 is one mode and 50-100 is the other mode.

Check the DX7 Programming video. He does one hell of a job explaining how to set up the GY401 on the DX7.

HeliFreak.com Index -> Finless Bob's Helifreak Tech Room -> Jermo's DX7 Setup Video

It really helped me understand why I was setting things up, which I prefer to the straight out "set X to Y, 'cause I said so" sort of deal.

Jermo's DX7 video shows you how to set up gyro modes/functions, but I prefer just to use the gear switch.

For a good explanation of how to set it up, have a look at this page: http://www.raptortechnique.com/gy401-dx7.htm

from all my trial and error you cant go back and forth from hh to rate via gear switch on dx7...i know, it sucks, but you cant, and have to work it differently with another switch..

the 0 or 1.. wont change mid flight, the only way you could do it would be to lower the percentage value below 50 to activate rate mode, anything over 50 is hh.

i know, i had the same grief

then just forgot about using rate in flight

if i need it for set up or testing i lower the gain values below 50 and voila.. then back up to my setting..currently 76 and fly off.

there are ways to do what you wish but it is fairly more involve, do a search on this site and you will find it as well.

good luck

ya sorry should've slokked at the above link.. it explains what i mean by using other function.

still uses gear swithc but the secret is NOT to use gyro function, and trough trial and error you set your gain via epa's of gear as if it where controlling a servo.

thanks from my end as well dkochan. apreciate the link.

Just a few points here:
1. If you use the gyro sense menu to control gain you CAN change the gain during flight by changing flight modes from Normal to Stunt or hitting throttle hold. We only get those three which I believe is a design flaw. It works for 99% of what we will do because few pilots fly rate mode so we really don't need the function except to reset the gyro.

2. You can use just a switch to control gain. It works fine but wastes a switch that you could use for something else AND if you think about when you'd want to change gains it's likely going to be in response to a flight mode change. Kind of a waste to be required to hit 2 switches to do one thing..thus we're back to the flight mode switch via gyro sense.

I agree Spektrum implemented it badly and we can debate the virtues of both methods. At the end of the day I doubt you'll be changing your gains/modes once you get it setup. If it works for you then go fly it.

You know its like I said I fly fine in HH but when i needed to reset every thing in my DX 7 because i erased my complete program (thats another problem a brain fart) and when I reset everything I thought I needed to switch between the rate and HH with the switch. You are right Jermo with it set up correctlly I don't need to switch it while in filght. I guess it is a problem with Specktrums program? Jermo your video was very helpful.
Thanks guys for your imput

it's not a problem. It's just that when the Gyro sense menu is in use the channel used for gyro gain is locked to using the flight mode switches (both flight mode and throttle hold).

oppie .... and others,

Once you have your TX set up for a model (and you are not flying 20 models!) COPY IT to another model number so if you screw up new settings, erase, or reset to default, ,,,,,,You have a back-up copy of your original settings. :glasses2:

Huges500Bob, ...Now that the cow is out of the barn I now made a copy of all my Trex model programs... :arggg:

What a stunningly simple and great suggestion! Done!
