Just use the hand launch method, no ground effects and only fly over grass to start with.

I did find it helpful using it when I first got my MCP X flying it in my garage until I got used to it. I am fairly new to the hobby but am comfortable (if not bored) with my SR120 as well as proficient in hovering my B400. It just stabilizes it a bit until you are comfortable. I now have it off and fly in the grass.
