I finally found one of these damn things and will have it in my hands next week:clap After the crap I went through trying to get one, a guy who gave me negative feedback after he stole my other motor.... I have been told by Inov8tive that mine is on it's way to sunny California!:peace
I'm going to be running a Castle 160 and I was looking at the timing and the motor has anything from 15deg to 24deg? What degree should I use? My other Scorpions that aren't
"special" have 15. And I have a 23T and a 24T pulley sitting here. I want to run 2200 so I figure the 23 would be a better starting point with an 8.9:1 ratio. If anyone has any opinions, input, words of wisdom, I'm all ears. Thanks.

I think 20T or 21T would be better for these motor.

can't help you with settings but make sure the castle can handle 200 amps as that is what these motors draw, the jive has been proven on these yy motors and more, not sure about castle

I've got those pulleys as well. I was just going off the chart in the manual. I've got a 500KV Scorp with the 22T pulley in it now and it's around 1950.

I've seen more than a few run the 520 LE motor with the 160 without issues. But I imagine if you ran the 120 you would have a small fire sooner or later.

This will really test the esc and sorry to say that i think it would be a shame to run such a poor gov on such a good motor, also make sure you have TP 65C packs

The Castle 160 ICE HV has been tested extensively with the KDE700XF-495 & it handles it good.

Ive watched their vids and with their music trying to convince me how good it is i can still hear the motor bogging. Listen to a vid with a le motor and jive or vbar gov you can hear difference

I flew my goblin yesterday for the first time with the 4530 540 on castle 160 gov gain set to 10.... Pwm 8 and timing on 15 running the 21t pulley. I didnt get to crazy with it did some fff climb outs and foward flips. I didnt notice any bogging and log is showing lowest rpm at 2221 (set for 2250) it did over rev once to 2400 anyway this motor and heli is sweet rock solid and scary power....

THANK YOU! Thats the info I needed. I'm more than positive that my 160 will do just fine. I'll get the Scorpion ESC/BEC combo unit when you can actually buy them without going on a wild goose hunt allover Asia. And I have a Helijive on my TDR. Great unit, can't stand the setup. I like to see it on a computer.

I have the 4530-540 on cc 160 with 22 tooth pinion. Tried the 23 but was def overkill for my style and the 22 is close but alot better. I usually pull 180 amp peaks or so on a regular flights with a few hard stops and direction changes. 2200 HS. Timing is at 10 pwm at 8-12 I don't remember. Gov gain on 22-25. Gov holds great compared to my ice 100lv on a Rex 550, no over/underspeeding, no tail kicks, Just holds I do wish it would work with a phase sensor and vbar/SK gov but for now it works good Make sure to gear it right for the HS u will run most often (smallest pinion u can get by with). U want the castle throttle output to be 75-100% almost all the time looking at the logging. Running lower than this will have u in the danger zone from holding back so much voltage. That goes for all cc escs

Been tweaking settings im running 20 for timing 8pwm and 13 for gov gain. Still moving up on the gov gain 13 is holding good but i think 15 might be the sweet spot though... Hope this helps

Man, that helps big time! I got the email that my motor will be in SanDiego Thursday or Friday, so hopefully in a week it will be in my hands and in my Goblin! I programed it with the gear ration for the 23 pinion mainly because my 22 stripped one of the set screws and I'm not going to trust it. We will see. I'll keep looking for a stock unit just in case.

Yea 23 is a bit much for my style plus with the 22 tooth flying 2270 im getting 3:30 sec with zero collective managment and could easly get 4mins with collective managment...... Your gonna love it man it flys like the sim only better :))))))

2270 with a 22? Isn't it the more teeth the less RPM's, or is it the less teeth the less RPM's? I'm cool with 2200, I just want it to pull like hell. I've kinda ordered all the pinions I could get my hands on. 20,21,22,23,24...

More teeth on the pulley makes more rpm....

Motor is HERE!!! :peace Obviously you guys cut the shaft, right? I hate cutting shafts on a new motor. This thing is almost as fat as a coke can! I'm going to start with a 21T pinion. I'm running a 22T pinion (pulley) now with the 4035-500KV motor and I'm liking where it's at, I think with a 21T pulley I'll still get more RPM's. I also went full retard and ordered six 65C TP 5000mah packs. Expensive week. Now I have to change the shaft in my 500KV motor that was in it, put it in my 700e, sell it, and buy a Whiplash or a Compass 7HV.

Good luck buddy yes your gonna need to cut shaft measure twice cut once :) and don't forget to cover motor with bag when cutting shaft.....

Done. All I gotta do now is solder on the bullets and go over ESC program one more time, mount it...

are many people using the ice hv 160 given the recent issues with them burning up?

I have been so far with ab 120+ flights. No issues but would like to make the switch to scorpion and use the SK gov

Castle is a solid uint. RC heli's seems to be like a lot of other hobbies, like dirt bikes, and if your not using whatever is hot right now people think it won't work. I think less then half the pilots out there can actually tell the difference between products. The other day I wen't out flying with a Compass team pilot, and he was using cheap HobbyWing ESC and it's governor, Gens Ace packs.... Yah, he's still better than me. For now, all of my Castle's are working like a champ, and I like them better than my Kontroniks. Mainly because of how easy they are to program.
The ESC and motor are in! I changed how my Hercules BEC is wired, so I need to reroute some things, but it's almost there! And I figured out why my belt kept squeaking when I spun it around. The pulley was just a little low on the motor shaft, and it rubbed on the flange a little. This time I tracked the belt sorta like you do when you build a Harley, then tightened the set screws. Damn do I like working on the Goblin!!!

:wow2: I AM A BELIEVER!!! This motor pulls!!!! WOW!! I lost a solid minute in flight time, but oh well! My TP packs haven't arrived yet so I used an old set of Turnigy 45C crap packs. Even with those there is an amazing difference! My only issue is for norm I have it at 1700, ST 1 is 1900, and ST 2 is 2250 (ish). Going from Norm to ST 1 I can't even hear the RPM's change until I get to ST 2. And then When I go from ST2 to ST1 it feels like it's barely hanging in the air. I'm sure I'll sort it out. But holy $hit is this thing balls to the wall!
