Newbie to the hobby (well long story short - bf was into R/C which got me interseted - built Trex450X - broke up with bf but kept the heli)
I have a Trex450X (yeah I know it is an old frame) and I have gone through Fineless's videos on CCPM setup. To the best of my ability, everything is set up according to the videos.
I have flown this heli before, and loved it. However, I now have since replaced a few parts which were either installed upside down (another long story) or in need of replacing due to a crash. I also inherited a different radio. I was flying on a Hitech Eclipse but did get a Futaba T9CHP. I so much want to fly! I know there is a club in Jacksonville where I can go, however, that is a 3-4 hour drive for me. My weekends seem to fill up fast with stuff that keep me close to home.
Can someone with the same radio and a similar heli please share their radio setup. I can get her off the ground, but at full throttle and only an inch or two. So I know she can fly. She also is slow to spool up. Which I don't understand.
Also is there anyone in Brevard County who can help me out?
Thanks :)
Jermo

JG post pictures of what you have questions/concerns with on installation/setup. What motor/esc..etc do you have and which pinion.
Also to reduce crashes while you learn I strongly suggest investing in a simulator. I fly the Realflight G3.5 and it works well for me. There may be better sims out there. There are also cheap/free ones avail that will work but I've not flown them.

have simulator, G2 and I fly at least once a week for 20-30 minutes each time.
will post all the info later, just checking email while making dinner.
Thanks

Have you checked how much pitch you're getting at full stick? It sounds as if it's not enough, should be 9-10 deg. if you're just starting out. Your slow spool-up could just be the ESC's "soft-start feature" and is not necessarily a problem, refer to Bob's "Programming the Align ESC" video to get a better understanding of this feature.
On the Futaba 9C, you have to disable the HOV-THR, HOV-PIT, and HI/LO-PIT trims, these are enabled by default and they can mess up your setup if the trim knobs/levers are moved. These are used to adjust the center point of the throttle and pitch curves (usually on nitro helis), and the max pitch available in different flight modes. For both HOV-THR and HOV-PIT, first select the function in the advanced menu and set MIX to INH and VR to NULL. For HI/LO-PIT, set both HI-PIT and LO-PIT to 100%, ADJ for both to MAN, and the switches for both to NULL. After doing this, you should be able to get the full range of travel on your swash and you can setup everything as per Bob's video and you won't have to worry about bumping the trim knobs/levers and screwing up your setup.
I use this radio w/ my 450SEV2 and here is my setup, yours might not be exactly the same but it should be close.
In the swash menu my percentages are as follows:
AIL -53%
ELE +53%
PIT +43%
This gives me +/- 10 deg. pitch and 6 deg. on cyclic
Pitch curve is 35, 42.5, 50, 75, 100 in normal mode and 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 in idle-up
Throttle curve is 0, 50, 80, 90, 100 in normal mode and 100, 95, 90, 95, 100 in idle-up
I hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions if you have any. There is a huge amount of knowledge and experience here on these forums and someone is always willing to lend a hand. I'm new to helicopters myself, but not to R/C so my radio/mechanical setup expertise is far greater than my flying prowess, but I'll try to help any way I can.

John, thanks for the info, yes I don't have enough pitch on my blades. I believe it was only around 6deg
mmmm
I am hoping for some time tonight to dig into the heli, post pictures of my setup (don't have a great camera) that show up. LOL

I'll be in Daytona flying on Saturday, the guy riding with me has 2 Trexes so if you want to meet up let me know.
Of course the jax invite in open ended, come up any time.

Hi Jetgirl
Good to hear you are still into the Heli's , good for you . :D
you really need some one on one help IMHO . I tried to set my
heli up buy myself and got it so I could fly but the first time I
had a chance to go to a heli flyin and got some one on one my
skills took a giant leap . There are some very good heli pilots in
Jacksonville if you can't find one closer , and really just one time
having someone really explain what they are doing and not just
doing it for you will really help
Keith
PS
Thinking of a Trex event for North Florida
Looking to see how much interest there is right now

Keith!
Good to hear from you too!
still working on the heli, using a lot of brain power right now.. LOL
:) Think I have the solution to my problem.....just need a roundtuit to get started. If I get everything done I want to today, I can work on the heli. Fingers crossed on that one.

I am sitting here going through my radio book and setting up my heli on another channel in my radio. Just to see if I missed a step.
So I am getting there.

at least u understand about the setup...im totally lost...i dont have the first clue on even how to put one together....i mean, i know what the gyro and stuff does but im CLUELESS about where it goes and how to set up my pitch, etc...
my boyfriend is really good at it though...hes pretty much an expert (well in my eyes anyways)...we live together so hes constantly trying to inform me on what hes doing/why...but i still dont get it?
im supp to get my heli in this week and well, im gonna feel REALLY stupid when hes flying through it like a book...
is there anything that i can really read to help me understand...like 'heli book for dummies' or something? haha...im so clueless :-(

Check out this link...

It has videos there that you can watch... they will help you build your new heli. Watch them a couple of time before it comes and you'll be telling your boyfriend what goes where.
