got my Hurricane today and the red wire on my Esc is out of the plug? Is it supposed to be? or do I need to plug it back in, i assume so but I have never used a external BEC before?

the early GUAI's had a BEC but the later ones did not.
Did your kit come with the separate BEC? It should have.
The safe bet is to leave the red wire OUT in case that is a older ESC and use a BEC to power the radio.

with the red wirh unhooked it does nothing, I do have a external BEC, and the radio works, with the red wire plugged in it seems to work, so i assume it must be hooked up.

i havethe extra sheet that says I have the "new" 850kv motor and improved esc that is preprogramed. and the new 8mm, one way gear etc...

can't wait to test it tonight, I destroyed my Trex yesterday, my dang transmitter went dead. never had that happen before!!! always check your batteries!!

Ummmm something aint right. the new ESC should not have the BEC.
Also realize the stand alone little BEC has a switch on it and you must turn it on!! It has LEDs showing power level. USE IT and not the ESC BEC.

so you are saying the new esc, should have the red wire unhooked for the esc to work?

My bec has the switch in the rear and led's.

it seems to work well, but the red wire is hooked up on my esc. if I remove it the esc will not work at all.

do you have the main battery plugged into the esc? without the red wire on the esc plugged into the rx, the esc couldnt get power from anywhere, so you would need the main battery plugged in for the esc to get power. i don't own a hurricane 550, or even have a helicopter with a seperate bec, but im assuming thats how it works :).
