Hi all

should a range check be done on a 30 size heli and above? i am trying to draft a code of safe practice for our club site and there seems to be some confusion is it safe to perform a range check on a heli?

do you perform a range check with the helis reciever switched on or with the engine running?
i've been flying planks for years and the conventional wisdom is that you always perform a range check with the engine running. does this also apply to helis?

if so what is the correct procedure for range checking a

1 nitro heli

2 electric heli 550mm + blade size

Yes you should do a range check on any heli , With the nitro heli's that is done with the engine NOT running with the RX turned on with the antenna on the TX left in. The range of 100ft. to 150ft. is good have a friend watch for movment of the servos.
As for the electric helis unplug the motor and turn the RX on from there is the same as nitro helis this is safe and should be done as a preflight or at any new field.
