View Full Version : axe cp gyro question
Hello, I really enjoy flying my axe, but it seems Im putting in alot of tail input when flying, and in climbouts the tail really drifts to the left. what ajustments to the factory esc do I need to make, if more gain would that be clockwise?
Thanks all,
Brian

Brian-
Turning the gain or revo mix (I think the manual calls it tail trim) pots clockwise will increase their effect. I would start with the mix pot- give it about 1/8 turn counterclockwise, and if that makes it worse, go the other way. It helps to get a Sharpie or something similar and mark the original position of the slot on the adjuster for reference. Just make very small adjustments- those pots are very sensitive. Some people even say that you should have all power disconnected before making adjustments. As far as your gain goes, turn it up (clockwise) until the tail starts to rapidly oscillate from side to side, then back it down until it stops. I don't think that the gain would be causing the problem that you're describing, but tune the revo mix first, and then dial in the gain. It might be good to run this process twice, just to be sure.
I didn't fly on my stock 3-in-1 for very long, but this is the setup process that I used to get it dialed in. My memory is known to be selective, so I could be wrong, but I hope this is helpful anyway.
Good Luck!

Olso I like to know what do you adjust the gain or the tail trim thanks man for all and the ESC and the goes in the same place of the original was.

Brian-
Glad I could help! If your tail rotor is making lots of noise, check the gear mesh. I had some problems early on with the tail motor walking out of position and not meshing properly, which made tons of noise- sort of like a power drill with too much power and a bad bearing. Nothing that a little LocTite on the mounting screws couldn't handle though.
alucard-
Yeah, the tail holds fine on F8s. I had initially set the gain on my GY240 for about 80%, and I was flying indoors. As soon as I went outside and had to deal with a little wind, it was immediately obvious that my gain was too high. The tail was wagging badly, and I reduced my gain to about 70%, and that cleared the problem up. I still have yet to fly in the wind with the brushless tail, so I don't know if my gain setting is still good. My ESC should be here by this weekend, so I'll let you know as soon as I find out. The main ESC plugs into your Rx in the exact same place as stock. For the tail, the gyro plugs into channel 4 on the Rx, and the tail motor ESC plugs into the gyro. Just be sure to pull the red wire out of the tail ESC connector! You'll ruin your gyro if you don't.
