From what I've read, I need a governor in order to harness all the awesome power these Hypers put out. My understanding -correct me if I'm wrong please- is that the governor is sending a signal to the throttle servo like the gyro sends a signal to the T/R servo. Should one invest in a good, high speed servo for throttle?

I'm setting up a Raptor 50SE. I have a hyper 50 and CF main blades. My plans were to buy 8311's for collective and cyclic and a GY502/9254 for the tail. I already have a new DS811 that I installed for the throttle (before I looked into governors). Will the 811 be good enough?

811 is fine, you really don't NEED a gov. I have them in all my machines and have not turned one in in a long time because I am really having fun tweaking the curves. Only machines that I have that could use one are the gassers.

Gov's make it easy to not have good curves. Good curves make it easy to not need a governor...

That is the real and plain truth as I have experienced. your actual mileage may and will vary. :)

Cool...sounds good!

I like setting up pitch curves and I already have a tachometer, so I may initially fly this heli around for a while without buying a governor. It can always be added later, ya know! Thanks for the input.
