we have already had to helicopter events this year and are talking about next year already. We had our first in march that drew 197 people and 36 pilots. The second one was just a couple of weeks ago that drew 124 people and 26 pilots alot hotter weather and rain. The main problem everyone is having is that our events are only one day. I was going to open the event on friday at 9 am until sunday at 1 pm. The other events that we have had we gave away about 3,000.00 dollars worth of prizes and gifts. We have power and water at the field and 1,500 sqft structures to protect you from the rain. We have porter johns now but we are under construction of a 1,500 sqft club house with bathrooms and showers for you rv people. I am posting this to get feed back and let me know how you guys feel about this event and what time of year you would like to hold this event. Give me your advice
thanks

take baby steps.
You guys need to work on being a little less uptight, and put the FUN back in there.
Not having a member with the same level of dedication as the guests is also going to knock things out of whack, no matter what amenities you offer.
Radio impound is a necessary evil, rigid flight station control is not.
Plan a two day for the spring or fall and You'll come out ok.

I would really love to see you guys kick some butt! Having a gathering place within an hour of home is awesome.

As Wayne was saying , take baby steps. Attend several events that are held at local clubs and see how they operate. It takes a few years of holding an event to make it a great event. I have been putting on an event for nearly 15 years now, not going to say it is a great event. But there is a lot of pilots that attend that tell me they have a great time.
Just remember this. There is no event unless the pilots come to it. The event is for the pilots to enjoy. If they don't enjoy themselves and have a good time. They don't want to come back.
Maybe sound harsh, but that is how most good/great events operate.

I was able to attend B'ham 2007 and it was awesome. Maybe Larks should look into putting a lake in the flying field. I've never gotten to see heli's swim before B'ham, and let me tell you, it was fun watching them try.

thanks guys for all your input i owned my own rc racetrack for 5 years sdraceway is what it was called and gave it up due to it getting to big. We had about 100 drivers and 300 people once every 3 months so i will take it slow and travel to more heli events to make it right. I just would like to see us at larks to have a multiple day event so more people could come instead of a one day event. Thinking about the spring since we will only be having on heli event for next year

If/When Carolina Heli RC Club here in Fort Mill SC gets a field we'd like to hold some kind of kick off/christening event. Not sure when that will be. Gotta find someone at Carowinds to speak with and other folks in the area.
Work in progress. ;)

trae8622,
I will offer any advice and words of wisdom if you need them. LOL
Putting on an event is enjoyable for me. I will start working on my event for March 2008 around the end of Sept first of Oct 2007. I usually start about 6 months in advance making all the contacts about the event. Yes at least a two day event is going to draw more pilots.

I'm only average or less.
