hey guys!

I just got a heli to build and being from overseas the little pictures have to be researched. I know the little bottle on the bolt threads labeled 242 is Loctite 242, I assumed the bottle marked 638 was a Loctite product as well and it is. It's a retaining compound the heli manufacturer recommends putting on the outside of the bearings before slidding them into place to hold them still during flight.

My question is, has anyone used this compound before. I found a Permatex sleeve retainer compound that is the same chem comp that I plan to use. But I just wanted to hear from everyone else that might have used this for bearings and bushings in their builds.

The chem comp of Loctite 638 is Urethane methacrylate, and it's green.

Thanks!!

Green lockite. We use it for that purpose all the time, to make bearings stay put.

There's times, on example is the pinion bearing on the Raptor, that the bearing race is much harder than the pinion and if there isnt a good bond then the bearing race will wear away the pinion and give it a hour glass shape, causing the clutch bell to wobble.

BarracudaHockey-

Thanks. You just started my Dragonus II build with your reply. Now my weekend will be complete.

(You gettin' the idea I need a life? Hahahaha......)

Gees, thanks for the response again and say "hi" to all in Orange Park. I lived in Clermont for four years. Now I'm back in New England. It's colder here, but a little tip from an old Yankee. Things keep better in the freezer I always say. Don't miss the heat, no not one bit.

Seeya!

There are several various sleeve or cylinderical assembly compouknds. Any of them will work.

Many don't use any compound on the bearings, jusst install them dry.

BTW Permatex is fine. I would not use the stuff that comes in the kit.

Pinecone-

Thanks for the info. I'm going to go ahead and use the Permatex on the bearings for the Plastic grips and whatever else there is. I did have a bearing that slipped out of a tail assembly once and now I know why. We'll give it a try.

DO NOT use any of these products on plastic. The lethacrylate will serious degrade many plastics.

If you feel you need to retain the bearings in plasitc a TINY drop of CA is best.
