I found a way to reduce the damage to my heli in a crash. I can't, however, recommend this method to others.
It turns out I'm softer than the ground. At least from the heli's prospective. I crashed my 450 into myself yesterday. Thankfully, I absorbed some of the energy and my heli sustained only moderate damage.
By the way, I'm hurting from the contusions and lacerations.

Cripes, man, load those cuts up with Neosporin and go see the Doc Monday morning. And don't go to sleep if you live alone !!

Wow  ,
Glad it resulted in just minor injuries, could have been much worse.
That's exactly my biggest fear, not just for me but also bystanders.
I always check the wind, try to stay at least 8 mtrs away.
And despite all I also had some scary moments.
Good thing you show it, maybe wakes up some folks.
It's not a toy, It's a very mean machine

I am just courious..I noticed the cuts are on the underside of your arm..Did you fly it into your lap or toward your face and lifted your arms at the last second in a guard posture ? Every time I hover close, it's aways in my thoughts as to what I would do if for some reason it started comming toward me.

For those that are worried about similar cuts, you can buy Kevlar sleeves from just about any good safety supplier or glove place. They are mainly for the meat packing industry. You will be bruise, but not cut. :)

Hopefully you mean a Trex450, a 600 arm strike would not have been pretty.

A man with my sense of priority.
The heli is totally repaired and I flew it the day after the crash.

I run 4 cell packs. My headspeed is about 2900 RPM on this heli.

Chainmail and a face shield would be the best options.

It was heading for my upper chest. My arms went up instinctively. Nature figured out you can live missing an arm but, not missing a head.

I used to think the safest place to be was behind the pilot. This makes the third time I have heard of this kind of thing happening. I may have to find a new safe place...

Ahh instinctively... If it ever happens again, don't forget to "Jab and Move". Thats what they teach at boxing class if you are even in a fight.
Why not duck?
I got blinded in the sun flying my rexy one time and when I looked back it was heading straight for me. When I looked again I was on the ground, my transmitter was 6' away from me and the bird was wadded up on the ground(lawn darted), lol
Glad your arm is healing.

The do make chain mail sleeves and gloves also. I figure Kevlar will be ligheter and more comfortable, and still prevent teh cuts. They are designed to prevent cuts from super sharp boning knives.
