Default Can 8FG Trainer Cord - Slave to Spektrum?

Has anyone successfully buddy boxed with a DX8 master and 8FG slave using the Hanger 9 HAN173,4 Trainerlink and adapter? Any tips on setting it up? Does it matter if the 8FG is running a Lipo?

Thanks for any help. Never buddy boxed before period.

I am guessing no.

The reason is that the channels are numbered (or ordered actually) differently between Futaba and Spectrum. So on a Spectrum, the throttle is channel 0, while on a Futaba it is Channel 3.

On the trainer connection, the channel info comes out sequentially so if the DX8 is the actual transmitter, the 8FG aileron stick (Futaba CH1) would be interpreted as the DX8 throttle input. Would make for some unusual flying, to be sure!

I don't know if you can rearrange channels in either transmitter.

I don't know about any other aspects relating to compatibility, but you can reorder the channels (in two different ways).

If you're using the 8FG as the student (non-transmitting) radio (which looks like what the OP wants to do), you'll need to reorder the channels in the Linkage > Function screen. This will change the ordering of the channels transmitted to the receiver (if the actual transmitter is active) and/or sent over the trainer port.

If you're using the 8FG as the instructor (transmitting) radio, you'll need to change the "Student Channel" settings in the System > Trainer screen. I've never messed with this myself, but the manual shows that you can select which channel on the student radio corresponds to which function on the instructor radio. However, I'm not sure just how this interacts with CCPM and other mixing settings; you'll probably need to experiment some to figure it out.

I wonder if this cable will work as it seems to have the old round trainer plug, and not the newer square one that the 8fg accepts.

HAN174 is the round-to-square adapter for the cable.

AFAIK you cannot use a non-Futaba transmitter on a trainer cord. I'll double check that, but I am fairly certain of it.

Why does the channel assignment matter???? on the 8fg you can move the chanels around... hell you can make ch1 ail,ch2 ele, ch3 pitch, ch4 thro all via the function menu....

FWIW I have confirmed with the Futaba folks at Hobbico that it is not possible to use anything other than another Futaba transmitter on a buddy box with a Futaba master. So it does not matter if you can remap channels or find plugs to connect, it still will not work.

An old thread but the information above is quite incorrect and misleading for any future readers directed here by favorite search engines.
Many times answers from large stores are incorrect as staff may be new with little experience of multiple brands or just wish to push their own products.
Futaba and Hitec TX have always been able to act as Master or Slave with each other, but limited with some cyclic and trims when used with heli. (Acro/Glid good)
NB: The Hitec One Way Trainer cord must be used or DIY non powered cable as shown under page 7.
