I need some help in sortiing a first time skookum720setup problem in a new fuse.
I have run the 720 with basic 2001 ScoobyEVO 50nitro mecs and a mechanically phased plugnplay 4blade head with thin new balanced jigsaw blades. After two initial skitty couple of minutes hovers in the driveway it hovered and flew a tank in the park absolutely rock solid and so smooth, all balanced with cg sweet.
The 720 had the basic scale preset so i bumped up the preset bell - (hiller from 65% to 75%) just to see what it did and it was a little too stiff so set it down to 65 again.
and stuck the mecs in a sweet 50 size 412 huey fuse with a dropdown tail assembly and detailed it.
The Huey fuse mecs are blocked at about 5 degrees forwards angle so it is meant to hover tail down and act as an articulated mast for forwards flight so the setting of the swash is a bit crazy to look at. The tank of nitro is off-ballanced by a foam pilot and battery which when the tank is full leaves it slightly tail heavy in cg.
I had a couple of last minute brain waves the night before the maiden flight to add a tad (1-2degrees) of mec swash forward and reset the 720, which i regret now.
The next morning I sun up at the rebels flyiing field and it hovered upto 8 feet or 2.5metres-ish and pig-rooted around pitching and rolling. It was a handfull to contain but I thought yea it did that the first time(not as radically) however the extra weight of the fuse is just exaggerating it. I waited the 20 seconds after landing it to turn it off and save the data so after a few deep breaths. I went again determined to fly through the pitching and rolling into hopefully a smooth forwards lazy eight... NOT:arggg:.
It pitched and rolled about half a footy pitch away and as i banked to turn I ended up in an induced maiden dive from 75' and another 20' rollercoaster dive. This is what i have to sort out with the 720???
To finish it off (but sorting out also) then the tail gearbox gave out and began piro-ing I aborted cut power when leveled and tried a maiden piro auto into thankfully long grass. I neeed to replace a solid superglued tailgear pin with a hirobo spit spring gear-pin. and redetail the 412 again.
After rereading this post maybe the slight cg backwards and the slight swash forwards was fighting each other in the 720 gyro? but why the crazy death dives and pull outs?
The fuse is slightly overweighted on the right side because of the rescue winch bubble hanging out past the landing gear also needs to be balanced:confused:
Has anyone got a similar setup and had to deal with these same issues ? please reply!
