After thinking about a Logo for a while and seeing the 600's perform at 3D Masters I bought a 500 3D from Revolution on the Sunday afternoon. I managed to finish the build yesterday around midday and took it out for a quick test flight or two at the local park. I used a spare Century Electron 80A esc I had lying around but I'd forgotten the 30 second wait for the slow spool-up to become active again (now I remember WHY it was lying around  ). After flicking throttle hold to make some adjustments I knocked it off and went from zero to 2200rpm in around 0.02S. To the gears credit it hasn't stripped any teeth but has 'shaved' the tops off of the teeth, I tried it again today by meshing the pinion tight up but this only lasted a few minutes, shane as I'm warming to it at the moment.

I've rang Revolution this morning and they are hoping to have some in tomorrow but you never know, I'm just paranoid after buying one of the first Swifts into the UK and having to wait nearlt 2 months to get spares after it threw a tail blade holder on its second flight (I hate ARTF, I thought I'd checked & loctited everything :( ) I see Mikado show them on their website but you can only order if in Germany so if anyone knows where they are actually in stock and willing to ship to the UK a heads up would be greatly appreciated.

Steve,

There are plenty of Mod 0.5 and 0.7 herringbone main gears in stock. If you ask for Dave at rev, no doubt he can order you some in.

If you find you start stripping 0.5 gears, try the 0.7, they have 153T instead of 212T, and the teeth are much larger.

Thanks for that Ian, I spoke to Revolution again yesterday and they had got a box of spares recently arrived which they hadn't had chance to check, a bit busy in the aftermath of 3DM! Anyway, dave checked the box and the main gear was in, posted yesterday, arrived at 7.45am this morning and flown at lunch time

I've changed the speed controller so I'm hoping to get smooth spool-ups from here on but its good to know the 0.7 module gears can be used too, any more problems and it could be a good option.

mod 0.7 is great when you really start to push these things. The great thing is with herringbone gears, you can really pump the power through them, unlike strait cut gears.

With the latest batteries like the EVO25 range, the strait cut gears are really on there limits, i went through 6 mod 0.7 gears on my L14 before i managed to get some Mod 1 gears, which are HUUUGE, and even after crashing today, its still in one piece.

Depending on your flying style, depends on what gear you need, no need to go OTT if you really don't need it, but if you fly hard, definitely go for the 0.7
