Ok..this is a reminder to all that want to attend (or who might be curious). The 2005 USA Heli Team members will be here to get their skills fined tuned against other competitors. If you ever wanted to see what competition flying is all about, or needed answers to your questions, this is a must attend event!

This contest (for the first time ever!) will have a 'class within a class' awards!.
Award certificates will be given in Class 1 - 1st thru 6th, AND Class 1 (30-50 size Heli) - 1st thru 3rd! Which means that you don't have to have a 'high dollar, highly modified' heli to compete! Hopefully, there are some of you who always wanted to try your skills at competition, but felt that you didn't have the 'caliber' of machine to do it with. Well, here's your chance!! Just show up and fly what you brung!!!! Not familiar with the set of manuevers? Go to the AMA website and download the AMA Heli Competion Regulations (RC Heli).. http://www.modelaircraft.org/compreg.asp

Hope to see you there!

I don't know about the rest of the heli flying folks but this is going to be a fun event.

Looking forward to it and seeing some old and new faces. If you have never attended a contest this is the one, it is just a lot of fun and a good chance to improve your flying even if you 3D free style.

There will be a 50 class now so come join in the fun and you are sure to walk away with some great experience.

And it is a great joy to watch the team that will represent the US Championship and to see these folks fly, all I can say is WOW. They fly with such precision it is amazing. I also enjoy the chance to help out and give support to the team.

So come out and lets get together, if you are new to the hobby I will be glad to help you out and many others will also.

See you there, 4 days and counting! :glasses:

FAI/Class 2/Class 3 contest box is in (stage center), and the Class 1 / Class 1 30-50 size will be done in the Morning, after the field gets a fresh mowing.
Plenty of room for all who want to come practice and get ready for Saturday events!
Hope to see you there!

Great Event!
Another great job done by the Birmingham club and had a great time and learned alot from this event.

If you missed this all I can say is you missed out. Some of the greatest guys and so willing to help everyone fly better and lots of help with radio and setup questions.

All I can says is Thanks for a fun time and look forward to next year!

Special Thanks to Don and Cliff for all there help, those are 2 people that make this hobby so great......

Also to the judges who volunteered to sit all day in the hot sun just to help others learn to fly better.

the 'discipline' this year! This is an encouraging sign, and I hope
that we see more of these new competition pilots coming into the
fold. Please remember to help them along the way when they come to
these contest. Thanks Cliff, for helping out Class 1 contestant
Anthony Griffin with his radio setups.
> Thanks also to Gordie, for stepping up as a judge, after he had
problems develop with his 2 machines that kept him from actually
flying in the contest. Dave Harkey, and Alabaster RC Association
Club President Bobby Pakbaz for their participation as the other 2
judges. This provided the opportunity to run all 15
contestants/Classes on one flight line/contest box.

First 'International' pilot to come to the contest. This was his
first outing as a contest pilot, but has been flying 'free style'
for some time now.
> 2nd Place - James (Jimmy) Wooten - From Mississippi, Jimmy has
really shown some great improvement in his skills! Well done, Jimmy!
> 3rd Place - Jed Jacobsen - He's our Class 1 - 30/50 size 1st place
pilot - and as Don Wade pointed out, he also did well to place in
this Class as well. Jeb got his first taste of competition flying
this year, but has been flying 'free style' for some time now. He's
really involved in the hobby, both as a RC heli pilot and RC Turbine
Aircraft pilot, as well as a Corporate pilot flying jets for a
living. Did I mention that he's also the VP of Alabaster RC
Association, and works part time at a local hobby shop here in
town? Busy fella!
> 4th Place - Anthony Griffin - Anthony (known on HeliFreak.com
as 'RSLMongoose') is from Anniston, AL, and this was his first heli
contest. He's so serious about this, he bought my 2004 NATS
Championship heli! I think we'll be seeing more of this young man
in the future!
> 5th Place - Douglas Bostrom - Doug is from our local area, and
this was his first contest as well. Although family duties kept him
away on Sunday, he's determined to burn more fuel to get better at
Class 1 maneuvers!
>

> 1st Place - Daniel Hiatt (young Jedi/Hiatt) - For those who didn't
make it this year, you missed a young pilot flying demonstrating his
flying skills - as taught to him by his father no less! Young
Daniel WILL be someone to watch this year at the NATS, if he so
chooses to compete there. His flying style mirrors that of his
dads, in my humble opinion.
> 2nd Place - Dan Siebe - A local pilot who has been known to take
off in a 'tangent - literally! (remember last year's flyoff between
Robin, him, and myself in class 1?) LOL
> He did extremely well, considering that (according to him) he has
only flown one practice flight in preparation except the day before
this contest!
> 3rd Place - Bob Primm - Bob is well known in our area, and he too
is from Anniston. Bob is one of our greatest supporters of
competition flying, and each year, he continues to improve in his
skills!
>
> Class 3 -
> (Big Group here!)
> 1st Place - Douglas Trent - (who else?) LOL.. Great Job, Doug!
Think it's time to go to FAI/F3C?
> 2nd Place - Dave Sellars - Gordie's mentor and 'side-kick' did
well to hold his own. Heck, he even took time (during one of his
rounds) to show his some 'future contest maneuver's, although I
didn't catch the name of that particular maneuver, it WAS
interesting. Too bad the judges didn't think so!
>
> FAI/F3C -
> 1st Place - Wayne Mann - the 'man' himself took top honors. His
participation as a contestant and as one of our Team USA World team
members brings us honor here at the Triple A heli Challenge. Thanks
Wayne, for your attendance. I hope that your 'certificate' made it
home!
> 2nd Place - Cliff Hiatt - another one of our leaders within the
heli community, who took the time to share his expertise with
others. Well done, Cliff! And great job in coaching your son to
his first Win!
> 3rd Place - Don Wade - Dang! Talk about charity!!! LOL..Just
kidding! Don seems to finally gotten the message...DON'T Touch the
Collective during Rolls! At least, Don is showing consistency
between rounds!
> 4th Place - Timothy Diperi - As most know Tim, his placing here is
just an example what happens to good pilots who don't practice
a 'certain' maneuver enough. However, him showing up to the Triple
A Heli Challenge reflects his support to this hobby.
> 5th Place - Dennis Purduski - I'm sure he'll make a better
showing a Nashville this year, as well at the NATS. Dennis might be
our biggest surprise this year! Who knows??
>
> Ok, that's the wrap up. Hope you didn't mind my commentaries,
since Don doesn't have web/email access at the present time. For
those who sat on the sidelines this contest, you missed some great
flying and better camaraderie. Old friends (and new) enjoyed each
others company here at Birmingham, and we're all looking forward to
our next contest to meet up again! AND, the USA Team 2005 will be
getting $500 for the team fund from this contest! To date, the
Triple A Heli Challenge has donated close to $3000 to the team
fund! We're proud to be sponsors of our world team, as I know
everyone of you are as well! GO TEAM USA!
