Yes I messed up I meant to say the microHeli tail (or HDX etc) not the Trex. The Diablo tail is like the uH tail except leading edge.

OK Bob which is better the Trex or the Diablo? Or they both the same?

There is no BETTER answer. Both are good helis PERIOD.
So to make a decision on which to get you should not ask which is better as there is no clear winner.

There's something to be said for the personalized service you get with a Diablo. You can work out a deal with Scott to get just about anything you need, quickly. That's just one of the intangibles you need to consider.

Look what the doctor delivered to today!!! I'm all RC-Tek now baby!!! I really love the way it looks. Doesn't look cheap. The tail boom clamp design is really advanced looking. Even the Anti-Rotation bracket is CNC. Align doesn't even give you this CNC metal, but cheap plastic.
Don't know if I want to install the red washers I got from Scott on this now. The grey's look HOTT also. What do you guys think?
BTW, this is the Skyshark frame. The Diablo frame is black. Both are the same heli, just one sliver and one red.

Bob.... It's sad to say but somehow I overlooked this heli and never heard anything of it's existance.
I really like the motor & front servo locations. Very smart idea on the design of this bird. I may have to get one of these after my Mikado project is complete.
Thanks for bringing this heli to my attention.:noteworthy

Jeremy, this is a very nice heli man. When the pre-production units came out I wasn't too impressed at that time. But then, alot of changes to the design were made, including the suggestions mentioned by Bob, which made the heli really HOT.
There is alot of things unique to this heli. One of the things that got my attention is that tt has a Head that they have called the "G-Head" design which incorporates the over-slung flybar. For me, this over-slung flybar has made my heli more stable than the Trex design. Other say that the heli can flilp more easily also. So, you get very stable design with awesome roll capacity.

Metal anti-rotation bracket and a metal anti-rotation pin? Those two bangin' together will generate RF noise.. Enough to cause a problem? Dunno, but it might be worthwhile to keep an eye on it.

Does it have thrust bearings in the blade grips like the T-Rex450 V2?

We found there was no need for thrust bearings due to a new "thrust bore" we machined into the CNC blade grips.

Thrust Bore? Got a pick or something explaining what that is?

They do not bang together and there is no way for two pieces of metal to generate radio frequency static or noise unless there is some sort of electricity flowing through at least one of the items rubbing. Since there is no voltage on the swashplate and the frame/bracket is not "hot", nothing other than a smooth and secure movement is experienced.

Yes, there is some info on this at our forums, but I do not think I can link it here. Attached is a picture showing our preproduction vs production grips.

Thanks Scott! Are you going to have other colors of this heli? I think purple would be sweet!!!

We have the red Diablo that you see here and also the Sky-Shark which is grey. We can make any color, but I think two is enough for now. ;-)

I'm still at lost about this "thrust bore" design? Do you have a cross section view of the concept? I can't see it being an improvement over the thrust bearing design or even the original design.

From engineering-
"The updated RCT-450 grip design has this "thrust bore" concept that adds strength to the grips and reduces wear on the bearings. The logic is to keep the bearings separated and in true alignment by encapsulating them with the thrust tension being distributed throughout the channel bore and not just the bearing perimeter were it meets the ALU channel wall. In our testing this virtually eliminates bearing movement, excessive wear, and overall vibration from parts "floating" when compared to a traditional straight bore design."
We do not have any CAD cross section graphics to share at this time, but we may make this visual feature available in the soon to be released digital reference manual that will allow a full 3D CAD like view of the completed heli and each individual part during the assembly process (at least that is our target).

Scott

EDIT*** Red Washers....
Hey Jeremy, here's some pics of my finished kit. I call her the "DiabloShark", since its a mixed design of the Red Diablo and Grey Skyshark with some extra mods that I prefer. The canopy also is not RC-Tek. The RC-Tek canopy fits around the servo's and there is no need to cut and modify it like I did.
Scott should really consider selling the Diablo with the Silver Frame. I had to get the Skyshark frame with the grey cnc because it would of cost too much for Scott to custom make one unit with the silver frame and red cnc. Maybe I can get an exchange for the red frame cnc one day!! :)

Imagine what the rest of this new 500 is gonna look like!! HOT!! Wonder if Align's 500 gonna come close to competing against this.
Scott, I want one.. Gimmie, Gimmie!!! :)
