View Full Version : New Blade Cp

So I am a total newbie to the helicopter world. I purchased a new Blade CP about three weeks ago and have went through at least 15 charges, and nearly $100 worth of blades on it.-(with the training wheels) :arggg: Despite my numerous failed attempts, I still love it.
The problem I am having is that I can't maintain a steady hover with it. I have read the tips in the manual that came with it, and have tried to trim to the best possible points. However, it still remains jerky and unstable. Another problem I am having is if I set it down too hard, the blades sometimes hit the tail boom and get in a tangled mess... (this may just be my fault)
:dontknow
Anyways, give it to me straight guys. I would really appreciate some tips, hints, and or constructive criticism.
Thanks,
A newbie

I had a cp pro, that I learned how to fly on. The best tip I can give you is trying the Radd School of Rotory Flight. See link below. After I went through $100 worth of woodies, I bought a set of plastic blades from JCS Hobbies. I suggest the yellow ones, easier to see. At least you aren't replacing the blades everytime you fly. Keep in mind, you may be breaking something else, but it isn't $20 blades, that's what my LHS sold them for. When you finally get it up hovering, you will say, I can't believe how easy that is. Alot of practice. :fly

Well if you don't have one allready try getting a simulator. It helped me out a lot. Also learn to tune and set up your head and blades as well as possible. The setup on my heli was something that drastically increased the ease of flight.
The eflight carbon fiber blades are really tough and are also some of the best blades you can buy for the CP/CPP.

the pro is a handful to fly
if your using the stock radio setup it will make it hard her...
google radds school of flying.. follow is 10 pack traning course to the T no cutting corners what so ever. if you go out side of the box ( wich btw is a made up box that you need to picture on the ground ) set the bird down and go walk over and pick it up and put it back in the box. take it slow dont rush. but by the 10th pack you should be pretty good with tail in hovering.. thats thekey to flying helis, if you cant fly the tail you cant fly the heli...keep the tal pointed at you at all times..
a sim will do wonders for you its well worth the 200 bucks for real flight. even if you comp runs it slow as balls. in 2 weeks of 3 hours a night on it, i went from only being able to hover tail in on the sim. to doing tic tocs, fff, backwards flight, stall turns, piro's. now after playing the sim at the lhs. im getting good at stopping on a dime from fff. i can also hover in all directions with out thinking. the first time i tryed a side in hover after doing it on the sim and learning what i have. it was naturel to me. i didnt have to think about wich way to move the sticks. i spun it aound to the other side and it was the same thing...
as soon as you know your hooked go out and spend themoney on a new radio.. id say ntohing but spektrum. a dx6 is good. but im getting frustrated with the 3 point curves. while as the dx7 is a faster radio. not that you will notice.. but the throttle curves , pitch curves are all 5 point.... makes supplying power and pitch smoother..
also i gotta pitch this,, if you want to go brushless wich is really nice upgrade. ive got the brushless system out of the book. the eflite 20amp esc, and park 370.. both in awsome condition. never missused or anything like that. also alreayd has the 8t pinion on it

If your going to get a new radio, at least get one that will upgrade to the Bigger Heli you will be buying later. ....... don't just buy the cheapest thing you can to get a new radio. I am totally against the "buying twice" routine. Fly what you have until you are comfortable. Think about this possible solution..... do you want to put $500 into upgrades for the CP or invest in a bigger bird. Been there done that.

The CF blades was/is the best upgrade that I've made so far.
I went with Plastic blades and they seamed to be the root of my blade strikes. Once I put the CF on no more blade strikes... of course not landing as hard helped too... :glasses2:

When you learn to hover in all directions and start flying figure 8 don't get spend happy with this heli. IT'S NOT WORTH DUMPING MONEY IN IT!!! Get a T-Rex450 or my favorite a Mini-Titan325. The Blade CPP is fun at first but will NEVER fly like a T-Rex or Mini-Titan. You will know when the time is right.... listen to your gut and do what it's telling ya. When your about to lay down $125 for a nice head relize it will not fly much better..... then upgrade to something else and sell it to another noobie.
One more thing..... When you can hover a Blade CPP in one spot, let it be known to yourself that you would be a champ at something big like a 50 size machine.

the gut feeling being spoken of, is when you grab your pro and are just about to throw it on the ground...

Good Advice Lithiumstatic, that's exactly what I did. Actually I bought a Trex when I was down for two weeks, waiting for Horizon to replace my 3n1.

Thanks for all your tips guys. I have had the carbon fiber blades for a wile, but I have just been to scared/paranoid to put them on. However now I have run out of my white wood blades and am going have to give them a try.
By the way, I have learned how to get the pitch right on the blades which I think was my main problem. A $7 pitch tool has solved it! For a bit there my pitch was negative, which I think was my main problem. Now I have the pitch around +5 or +6 and the blades do not hit the tail boom as much when I set it down. What do you guys set your Blade CP's at? Oh yes, and one more question, do you have to tune anything else on the head of the heli? :dontknow
Much Thanks guys,
Your advice seems as
if it came from gods :D

real flight g3.5
they have axe cp same hting, but why wast your time in there with that heli fly one of the.90 nitro birds. the cp's on sims are hard to see, plus your trying to learn the control movements for hovering.. you will learn more ont he sim when your just f-ing around.

VengeanceCP, I have some rubber blades you can't mess up no matter how hard you hit stuff!! If you send me your address I will give them to you if I can still find them. They are new in package!

i would say that a new radio would do wonders i have a blade cp pro and though i have the stock radio im saving up to get a bettter one, i have symetrical plastic blades on mine and i like them a hole lot better than the flat bottom wood blades and a good hover also depends on how high you get the heli off the ground, if your stayig a foot or two off the ground it will be harder to hover than say flying four to five feet off the ground due to the ground affect between the heli, the air, and the ground

I agree with the simulator idea. I wanted either it, or the cp pro to learn on for my Trex450sev2. I went with the simulator. Yes the G3.5 is more expensive, but it gives you hours of learn time, fun, and dont have to pay to replace parts, this means youll learn alot and actually save money. I went from the Real Flight G3.5 to the Trex, and I could hover right away. This is possible.
G3.5 has both the blade cp pro and the Trex450 downloadable on the swap pages.

I too started with a CP Pro as my first (and only so far) heli. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this or not but If you want to help tame the CP Pro with the stock radio you can lengthen the sticks on the TX. You simply unscrew them and then tighten the lock screw on the end. I know at the beginning it is difficult to control how much you move your controls but as time goes on you will get better at this. Or at least until you get a good radio and then the world opens up!
* don't forget the extra flybar weights.
