All, recently a rather serious issue has been revealed with regards to this otherwise affordable and flexible charger. Users trying to charge a 6S cell that has been discharged below 22V will get the "Vol Sel Error”. This is because the charger isn't recognizing the LiPO as a 22.2 V 6S cell battery because the voltage is too low. Any attempt to recharge it as a 5S cell will result in charging up to the 21V maximum allowable for a 5S which is CLEARLY insufficient for it to perform as a 6S cell. This is a design flaw in the charger logic that CANNOT be bypassed.
MANY searches on different forums online have failed to reveal a solution for this issue so I have found a temporary one to help ‘jump start’ the charging process as a 6S cell.
Simply charge the battery in NiCAD mode with about 1.5~2.0A charging current (WITHOUT the balancer) until the voltage goes ABOVE 22.0 V then immediately revert to the normal 6S LiPO 22.2V charging-balancing process mode
This requires a bit of monitoring as the charger logic WILL NOT prevent overcharging in NiCAD mode but this lack of voltage monitoring will allow the battery to achieve the required voltage to be able to be recognized as a 6S LiPO.
Hybridheli (and other hobby shops) has sold many of these charges to some unhappy customers and we can only apologize. With this fix does not make the charge free of its flaw, it allows the charger to be used to its FULL capacity and dispenses the inconvenience of having a partially charged battery.
Now this method has been tested and it safely works if done properly HOWEVER, it may void your Align warranty and we CANNOT be held responsible for ANY damages caused due to misuse of the equipment. In other words (on the record) try this at your OWN risk!
(Off the record) it works just fine.
We will contact Align with regard to the issue as post any recommendations the company has.
Thanks all
