I was trying to install the switching voltage regulator and while de soldering one of the pins, the tab pulled itself out of the board. The little tab itself that is soldered to the internal circuit of the board came out now I have nothing to solder to. :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg:

Oh I've never done anything like that  just run a chunk of wire from the regulator to wherever the pad went all is well, and enjoy your longer runtime :glasses2:

I did it to my old DX6 which I sold to a friend. Ended up getting another one and broke it. I am going to e mail spectrum and see what they think. It still works for my sim. It is the spectrum moduel I think so it just wont transmit anything. I kind of wanted to get a full range TX anyway. Well maybe time to upgrade :D

I tried the same thing. I, too, screwed up the soldering. :( Had to send it in to Spektrum to get that particular board replaced. Expensive lesson learned. :( I'm still waiting for it to get back to me from Spektrum.
*sigh* :(

if you cant solder, or are worried about doing the mod. then it might just be cheaper and easyer to go out and buy a lipo to put in. or if you have not so good packs like dn power, or align packs. wire them up to run in the radio..with my 15003s packs im not 100% on my run times. but it seems to be something double or triple the stock pack times..

Well.....I got the word from Spektrum........and they fixed it for me!! They didn't even charge me labour or shipping to get it back to me! Is that cool or what!! Just gonna cost me $20 for the part I screwed up! Now THAT is service! My hat is off to Spektrum for their fantastic customer service........even though it was my fault in the first place. :)

I did both the voltage regulator and put in the DX7 battery.
The trick to desoldering the old regulator pins is to cut the pins before attempt to desolder them, that way you are only desolder a little bit at a time and can pull it off as soon as the solder melts.
A good hot iron helps too (mines a 60W $15 job from Radio Shack, powerful but cheap).
What I couldn't do was remove the regulator itself, in order to get that hot enough I had to put the rest of the board at risk - so I stopped and ground the silly thing off with a dremel!!
As long as you are careful with the dremel and the dust produced this is a viable way to get rid of it.
I've alredy got enough LiPo fear from the ones in my Heli to want more of them in my hands!

there's no need to desolder the reg itself, just cut the pins. i guess you need a real desoldering tool to remove it fully.

You guys need to use your wifes soldering iron like I do!!!! takes about 3 seconds to remove the whole regulator.
Of course she does stained glass so its a biggie.
