So I finally installed my dampers this morning, and as people had posted, they were obviously not silky smooth, but not notchy, just tight. So, then I removed both of the shims, that go between the thrust bearing, and the radil bearing in the metal grip. Put them on, that was to much shimming removed, as I had some end play in my grips. So I put just 1 shim in....low and behold.....perfect. So if you think about it, we removed 1/2 of the total shimming in the head.
I measured the thickness of the shim, and it was .79, so agree that thats what we want our total shimming in the head to be? Agree? Yes, thats what I thought.
So I knew I had some Raptor 90 Spindle shims, laying around. I check the thickness of the shims, one is .41, the other is .43. So I install them, and as you may guess, the .43 shim, caused that grip to be tight. So I removed that shim, sanded it down to .41, installed it, and its silky smooth now!
