Hi There,

Another newbie post here.

I'm trying to follow the setup the gy401 vid from Finless (Thanks m8y), and have also used the DX7 setup vid.

Now, when I power up, the gyro flashes red then goes steady, so I am in heading hold mode, right ?

I have the gear channel set as my gyro channel on my DX7.

So, when I flick the gear switch to go into normal mode, so I can set the limits, the red light on the GY401 should go off right ? But it just remains constantly on.

the connector only goes in one way to the GEAR channel on the AR7000, so I'm pretty sure I have that in correctly.

Any hints -> point me to a posting I've missed would be appreciated.

BTW - is it normal to hear a constant buzzing sound when the heli is powered up ? Didn't notice a buzzing on my twister - no servos are straining though.

Thanks

Andy

if im not wrong, you'll have to switch it off and back on again. this happened to most of my buddies and thats what they do:lol:

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

Ok, so I've tried this sequence:

DX7 Gear to 0, switch DX7 on

Power up heli - GY401 LED constantly on.
DX7 - switch gear to 1
GY401 LED constantly on (finless vid suggests it should go off at this point)
Power cycle heli
Gy401 LED constantly on
DX7 gear switch to 0 (just in case :P)
FY401 LED constantly on.

So it looks like to me, that the GY401 is not receiving the GEAR channel or the GEAR channel on the RX is bust.

One thing I have noticed, if I put the DX7 into monitor mode, so I can see the switches and controls moving etc. With GEAR setup as GYRO, the gear switch does not move on the display, if I put GEAR back to GEAR it does move.

Thanks

Andy

Hi,

Thanks :)

Update - I have tried using AUX2 instead of GEAR and get the same results.

go into your gyro sens mode, adjust the properties of #1 to around 28%. that should turn your gyro into normal mode when you flick the switch down. make sure your endpoints are turned down in the travel adjust mode. try 65% to start in the gear/aux channel (whichever you are using). turn down/up acordingly to get rid of any wag after you test fly.

Watch this video. It will explain a lot and help you setup your gyro.

Watch the video that lithium suggested it will help. Basically leave it in gear/gear and adjust the endpoints per the video and it should work.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies.

Okay, Gear in gear mode, flick the switch and the gyro is out of HH mode ):
(I take it i need to reassign gear to gyro later on?)

So, setting the limits, looking at the heli from the tail to the nose, I can set it up so that the movement of the tail to the right does not hit the plastic by twiddling the limits pot, but when I move the tail to the left, it smacks into the frame with the stick only moved about a cm.

I have tried full travel on the pot on the 401.

This is where you point me to a bit on the video I have totally missed ?

Thanks for the help :)

Yes you can change it to gyro.... whenever you want. Set your Delay on your 401 to 0. Your travel on the 401 pot should be somewhere between 80 and 100. Make sure your NOT in HH mode when setting your travel limit!

Is your subtrim for rudder at 0 both L & R?

Hi,

My sub trim is:

Thro: 0 AILE: 0
Elev: 0 RUDD: 0

LED on 401 is Off.

Just for sanity, I checked this again:

Moving stick to right, tail goes to the right, adjust the pot until the tail is just short of the bracket.
Moving stick to the left is grinding, no matter what I have the pot set to.

Oh, and at powerup with sticks neutral the servo is at 90 degrees :)....

Uhh oh, no it's not, i think the bracket screw may not have been tight enough, the servo bracket has moved!

Ok, so fixed that, I now have left and right movement on the tail without hitting the sides.

Thanks a million :)

next question, - Back in HH mode (Gear switch up to 0) if I move the stick left/right now the tail moves left/right but does not recentre - is that right ?
(e.g. if i move the stick right, the tail moves right and stays there till i move the tail left)

By not assigning GYRO to the GEAR channel, what does this mean ? Should I reassign GYRO to Gear ?

yep, i'm a total newbie, but thanks a lot for all the help so far!

Thanks :)

AndyYes it will stay. That's is the way it works. Crazy but true!

If it was mine I would asign it because it's nice to go into the menu to make gyro adjustments. It's visualy more appealing.

all sorted, flip gear to gear and not gyro, and I can leave HH mode and setup limits

Thanks guys :)
