Hi Guys putting together my 600N I notice that the tail rod guides are very loose. Is that correct or is there a way to tighten them
many thanks

Once you have them positioned use a drop of thin CA. Wick it into the sides

Did you use the cable ties like mentioned in the manual? Trust me, once you get one of those cable ties pulled through and a drop of CA is added those loops do not move. I had a boom crunching crash with my 600E and the guides stood firm. They are loose for that reason, to allow you to pull a length of cable tie through.

I use the cable tie method and no CA. They may move in the event of a crash, but I've never had them move during normal use.

I agree with that, cable ties and no ca. It will hold just fine.

Slide the tailrod guide over the top of the cable tie while holding it in place with your thumb.
Push the guide over the tie until it gets to the thicker part of the tie and is tight then trim off the surplus ends with a scalpel or Exacto knife.

Hi Guys,
many thanks didn't see any mention of cable ties in the manual, I'll check, but that sounds like a good method.
Many thanks

You can use the offcuts off the cable ties you use elsewhere - works easier to slide the guide over the tie rather than wiggle the tie under the guide :)

I reviewed my manual and saw no mention of cable ties. I did notice a while ago a friend had a 600e. His guides had a bump up in the round part that slides over the boom. It looks like that's where you would slide in the cable tie piece.

Mine do not have that bump up. I CA'd mine. Much cleaner IMO

Another vote for cable ties. So much easier to service this way, CA can be a pain, de-bonder is never around when you need it.

I like the clean look.

Bah they need to bring back the cable tie slots. tried filing some myself because trying to jam a cable tie under them never seemed to work very well, I was never satisfied with the fit.

Have resorted to a thin application of CA.

Cable ties is the solution, says in the manual, I personally use the CF tail $31.00 and you don't need cable ties for that, fits perfect, another option if you want to spend the money...

Thanks

Have any of you bothered with the new, longer tail rod guides? My kit is from June and the guides cause a slight bow to the tail rod. I've had 19 successfull flights so far and no ill effects. Just wondering if I should bother. I suppose I'll just order them in my next parts order for spares. You never know when the ground is going to want to play with your heli. They just don't play nice together sometimes.

Can anyone post a pic of the cable-tie method?

i don't see it in the 600N manual at a quick glance. but, you can download the 600E manual from the sticky in the E forum. the technique is illustrated at the bottom of page 13.

That's because apparently they redesigned the guides and eliminated the step up spot where the tie fits under the guide.

This confuses everybody. You can't use ties with the 600n! Just a small amount of thin CA and move on.

my 600E does NOT have the 'step' in the guides. and, you sure can put the ties under them. you just need to start with the very thin part of the cable tie and it works fine.

you can glue them if you like. but, the directions work just fine as well.

Take your e directions and stuff them ;)

Those of us with 600n's have directions that only show the guides assembled onto the boom and no mention of how to fix them. Sliding tie wrap under them is hokey if you ask me.

now it's hokey because i answered your question and showed you which page in the manual tells you to do it?

ok, ok. i give. glueing is the way a jedi master would do it. all us lemmings can keep cramming cable ties in like big brother wants us to :glasses2:

No it's hokey because the 600n sport doesn't have the guides with that added extra space for sticking trash under it and the manual you are referring to doesn't apply to the 600 n sport.

Come on back

my 600E doesnt have the extra space for sticking 'trash' under it either. the guides on the 600E and 600N are identical. so, i'm not following your argument, except that maybe Align forgot to put the instructions in the N's manual.

I`m using the new longer guides to cure the bowing control rod issue,on a CF boom.
You still have loads of room to nicely fit the cable tie and trim it off flush. So so easy.
Also there are no slots in the new ones.

Instructing you to shove a piece of trash under it to hold it from moving.? ;)

I also have the new guides. They are a nice slip fit. The CA works prefectly. To each his own.
