What would cause a motor to eat a head gasket? I got a leak in the head, took it off and its worn through all the way on one side. Its not even very old. But regardless, where can I buy some head gaskets for a thunder tiger pro-70h engine?

just a guess...
I would think that may be is due to the head not being tight enough and the hot gases escaping by the gap might have melted it away?
Or may be an irregularity on the head seat?
(As I said this is just a guess)

I think you are right on it not being tight enough. Are there any torque specifications for this stuff?

not that I know of.
I just tighten the screws until they touch (all of them) and then about 1/4 turn more (or whatever feels really snug), and I do it on a star pattern (like #1, #3, #5, #2, #4,#6)

so where do you think i can buy a new head gasket? are they per engine size, or per engine specifically, or what?

Don't know, I would probably try heliproz first since I'm a faithfully customer of them.
They are extremely helpful so if you give them a call they might have it or guide you to whom might have it.

it looks like you can only buy a whole gasket kit with all the o rings and stuff. it would be nice just to get a pack of head gaskets :)

what material is it?
Are you talking about the thing metal shim? or some more like paper gasket.
I got the whole shim kit for my OS.91 with the rubber gaskets for the back plate and it was less than $10, I don't think if they pack just the head stuff would be any cheaper.
If it's made of that kind of car gasket paper I would try to do it my self, but for that money...

its like a paper thin metal shim

Is it possible to run no gasket if you surface the head and sleeve?

so it went through another head gasket. i THINK it might have been because it got too hot. would this cause that? I got the tuning finally straightened out, and its doing good so far..
