I modified one of my Honey Bee FP helis by replacing the stock Esky motor with the Slo-Max 300 high performance brushed motor using a 10T pinion. I also replaced the stock Esky main rotor blades with the Kyosho M24 blades. The stock skids were also replaced with Super Skids. The Slo-Max 300 combined with the M24 blades really increases the headspeed. The M24 blades also have very little pitch, which greatly reduces ballooning/pitching up of the heli. Transitional lift is also greatly reduced. The M24s are also 1/2 in. shorter than the stock blades. All other parts of the heli including the tail motor and the 4-in1 (receiver, esc, mixer, rate gyro) are stock.

The only drawback to this setup is that the stock tail motor just can't keep up with the Slo-Max 300 at times. The Slo-Max will tend to overpower the stock tail motor. This results with the tail tending to lag a little; however, this is very manageable, though. A solution would be to install a direct drive tail motor, which I may do in the future. In the mean time, I'm having a good time throwing around this modified HBFP. Below is a video of one of my flights from last evening. Excuse the rough landing...no damage done. :)

Where can one pick up the Slo Max 300 motor?

Does the higher head speed and the lower pitch of your setup give you better control in windy conditions? Would there be any benefit to using the Slo Max with stock blades?

Thanks,
David

I purchased my Slo-Max's from Tower Hobbies: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMRK3&P=FR

Yes, the higher headspeed combined with the low-pitch M24 blades does make forward flight more stable. I've never tried the stock blades with the Slo-Max 300. I would think that the increased headspeed would make hovering easier and more stable with the stock blades. However, I would think that in forward flight, this higher headspeed with the high-pitched stock blades would produce more ballooning of the heli, especially flying into the wind. The Slo-Max 300/M24 blade combination is very stable flying into the wind.

Where are you getting the m24 blades?
Thanks Rich

I purchased the M24s from the eBay store...Toys Haus Inc.
