Factory Service/Calibration Menu.

This is a menu for calibrating the radio.
Not being accessible to the end user due to complications and complexity.

Scenario: With electronics/mechanical knowledge many end users can repair and recalibrate their own equipment. Without having to be a radio comunications expert. Radio manufactures do not intentionally allow this.

There is a calibration menu for most if not all digital radios in circulation.

I have been faced with more and more radio problems as the quality of the systems lowers along with the price.

Issue to resolve:
I have recently repaired a Futaba 6EXH it suffered from a dirty potentiometer on the throttle channel.
We approached our local Futaba service agent initially & asked if they would help.
Service agent replied. "We will not reapir any Futaba radio that has not been purchased from us". Was the first, second and third answer.
Apparently this 6EXH was purchased in Hong Kong.
So because the Futaba agent hadn't already made money, he wasn't willing to make any more money by helping.
He said. " Send it to Futaba America, Send it to Futaba Japan or Send it anywhere else but here".
It turned out due to more prying they can sell the pot but wouldn't and they could calibrate the radio but again would not.
I have replaced the pot the old one was a cheap sealed unit the new one was purchased from RS and made by Vishay. Nice quality and construction. With minor modification and basic knowledge it was modified to fit and it works 5k ohms. Simple enough.

The problem:
After any new pot is installed the values have to be set in the radio. Basically what this thread is all about.
I know there is a way but, don't know where it is.
How do you initialize the factory service/calibration menu on a 6EXH/EXA to set the values of the new pot.

If there is any tech that can help with this and does not want to share information with normal people.
Please feel free to email me with any information that will help. Or better still post the information in this thread.

Turns out that the pots used in the 6EXH are logirithmic or exponetial pots this is possibly the problem we are having. There may be no need to calibrate the radio with a closer matching pot.
However the question remains how do you calibrate the 6EXH.
5K ohm RS Stock No. 410-283
Manufacturer VISHAY SPECTROL
Manufacturer's part number 249-8-08-502.
Its harder to find a Logirithmic pot in 5K value.

How about calibrating the 9CAP/CHP.
I have seen many of these radios sold and a few come back, ( From the unlucky or cursed ).
We had a 9CHP the other day with a dry joint and bad calibration of the Hi/Lo Pitch slider.
Another Friday afternoon assembly from Futaba.
Don't get me wrong I only fly with Futaba apart form that one time I tested a freinds PCM9X 1.
No big deal. Going to get a Futaba tat :p
If any one knows how to calibrate the Futaba 6EXH or 9CHP please post it here I won't tell any one.
May even pull these posts down or ask admin to do so cause they must suck.

Wow this is an interesting topic that no one knows much about ( or doesn't want to let the cat out the bag).
Any way the radio will need calibration once the pot has been replaced.
I have heard that it is possible but then you could almost use any pot with the same values.

Actually there is a lot of info on the 8u/9c/9z. Here is a link to the Google search using the words "futaba service menu"

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADBF_enUS220US221&q=futaba+service+menu

Good luck!

Exact problem here. Honk Kong 6EXH, replaced dirty throttle pot, need to re-calibrate. Local Futaba agency doesnt want to know about it.

Someone MUST know how to enter the service menu in these radio's ?

There is a major problem with the pots used in the 6EXH I have now found that the same pots are used in the 6EX 2.4G model. I personally wouldn't use or reccomend this radio.
If you do buy it buy it with a factory warrantee & off your local Futaba supplier.
Hope your Futaba dealer is better than most and will put the correct pot in it and calibrate it.
P.S The pot has to be a Futaba one to get the correct values Major problem..>

Just go buy a 7CHP or CAP they have the same pot as the 9C.
Way better quality for not too much money...>
