My Lepton has a Jazz 55 ESC and I use 4S 3700mah batteries (Hyperion and FlightPower)

The 1st motor I used was the Hyperion 3025-10 on a 24T pinion
This was a good setup - dunno why I moved away from it :-(

I went to the Kora 15-14 on a 23T Pinion
This setup worked, but did not have the punch of the Hyperion 3025
I later changed to 24T pinion and the heli lost it's spirit somewhat
The problem is two fold:
The Kora's need to rev hard to produce power - 5S is better for the 15-14
The Jazz ESC has a governor (that you can't turn off)
I would have been better using an Align 75 amp ESC and a flat/high throttle curve on 23T

I've now switched to a Kora 15-12 on 21T
At present I have only setup my headspeeds in the garage at zero pitch
But it would appear that the spirit is back in the Lepton
I got 2840 on the head with a flat 77.5 throttle curve
(it would not go any faster)

I am keen to see how this performs in the air - this weekend

I've been messing with motors because that was the cheapest thing to change
(I have 5 * 4S batteries and did not want to sell then to buy into a 5S setup)

Change pinion to 18-19T and move up throttle curve to 90% to avoid ESC overheat.

Yeah, but this governor mode, the Jazz does not run hot at 80%
(was running 84% with the Hyperion - no problem)

If the motor cannot hold the headspeed in flight
and if I do run into temperature problems with the ESC or the Motor
then I will most likely have to do that

Don't forget: bigger gear ratio - bigger torque on main rotor - smaller rotor downspeed on maneuvres.

No risk. The jazz has the capacity to run continuously at any partial throttle. It's a very special kind of ESC. Worth the price. So at 75% it's really OK. I'm using 22T and 85% with the 15/12. My HS is 2600 with Hyperion 4S and 2760 with the 4S 3850 TP batt. It was higher when the batts were new...

Interesting info on the Jazz

Another reason why I don't think I need a lower gear (yet)
is that the headspeed (at zero pitch) is above the KV of the motor
But I will have to review that when see how she goes with flight loadings
