Hi Guys,
I have an opportunity to pick up a stratus w/maybe 10 flights on it for $650....

I am thnking that many of you synergy floks may have had some expierience with the stratus....

could any of you offer any compairisns?

I have heard the stratus Flys GREAT but has issues, glithcing/lock outs, very high repair costs

I have an avant and fly fairly hard 3d,planted the avant due to an inflight tailboom strike(that was a mess )

So I was thnking of the synergy or aurora when this stratus came accross the table?

Really apreciate any thoughts.....esp from guys who have had both...

hi Vertol,

ive previously owned a Ma stratus, and found even though the quality of the helicopter and how it flies is awesome, everything has to be pretty much perfect on them otherwise lockouts etc occur.. i was one of them mine fell from about 350Ft doing a tailslide at full throttle, it was an impressive funky chicken thats for sure..

now the N9 which im now flying, all i can say is i love it, easy to work on, they are a real tough heli, there were some quality issue's with parts, and still are a couple but they've pretty much modified all the parts that were giving people grief. IMO the synergy has unbelievable pitch response compared to the stratus and thats what i like in a heli..and the best bit about the N9 its an affordable 90, its really not that expensive..

just my .00002cents ;)
Cheers,
Piroking

Airboss, cheers for the second Synergy!

Man, I have to admit that my Synergy is awesome. It is one of the best out there. It is suitable for sport fliers, 3Ders and everyone. I have crashed mine 3 times, one of them was a really hard crash and the heli just held up really well.

The Stratus will be the next one I will buy and it will be the Bobby Watts version.

Anyways, both of them are great helis. You won't be disappointed with anyone. For now, I say the Synergy is a better choice due to its simplicity, availability and the money.

What causes the Stratus to have lockouts?

72mhz.

It has a bunch of carbon fiber. That's what makes it so light.

As said, 72 mhtz. If you're running 2.4ghtz then you'll have no problem.

I have been flying all carbon fiber helis since 1994. Never had any problems with 72 mhz or 50 mhz PCM in that time.

Then maybe the bearings?

By the way, it was an MA rep who told me it was the CF. I guess it's not though. It is kinda odd that the Stratus is more prone than others to 72 mhtz glitching.

Maybe it could also be excessively worn fan dampeners.

I am an MA team pilot. I for sure would not tell anyone it was the carbon fiber that caused glitches. Only way it can cause glitches is if it is cracked and rubbing together. There has been Carbon fiber helis since the early 90's. TSK, Kalt, Hirobo, MA, they all flew fine before 2.4ghz was even thought about.

I'm not arguing, just wondering why the Stratus is know to be 'glitchy'. I though for the longest time that it was the CF but since it's not, then what is (if anything)?

By the way, I'm aware you're an MA pilot, I was just trying to convey the point that my information was somewhat credible hence the reason I believed it.
