Just received the E-Smart from E-sky It is a 550 class Kit which came very attractively priced from Helidirect.

My initial observations of the kit are favorable the Frame is aluminum and all the structural screws are hex caps with nylock lock nuts., The spacer screws are locktited. The head assembly is supplied assembled and is fully locktited and lubed with bearings where expected. Head is a combination of metal and engineered plastic, seems robust. Blade roots are with thrust bearings and are retained by lock nuts.

Tail assembly is shipped assembled thru TR shaft again the people at E-sky used lock nuts in many locations. non locknutted fasteners would not unscrew with fair amount of torque.

Motor that came with the E-smart is an E-sky 1200rpm/V and they are recommending a esc capable of 80 amps. this seems alittle high as they also recommend 6s2p for the batteries. Battery space seems to be no problem with plenty of room for even 123-s or 3000-4000 sized packs.

I will be "blue printing" the assembly very similar to Finless' treatment of the GAUI 550.

I feel this is needed as the assembly "instructions" are very sketchy
.
THats it for now I will add more notes as encounterred.

ANYBODY ELSE GAMBLING ON THIS NEW PRODUCT?

The Saga continues

The buid or Strip down reassembly continues.

using the notes brom the finless videos I found that the control links on the washout assembly are incorrectly mounted (the ball linkages will not snap on the swash plate) this would seem no problem but in fact the washout plate will not mount with the correct orienation.also the phase mount is not free enough on the mainshaft to properly align.

None of the Linkages seem to corespond to the ID Drawings so I will be taking a break till I resolve these little quirks.

For the most part I am still Impressed by the overall quality of the kit.

Glad to see the write up in RC HELI but Have my reservations about the building and set-up tips.

Anybody else working this beast out??

Got the Servos and Gyro together for the build, will be using futaba 3151 for all function except rudder which will be a logitech 2100 hh gyro and a futaba 3154
ESC wil probably be an align unit in 75 amp power
Planning now for the new futaba 2.4gig 6 channel fasst rig still looking and shopping for battery/charger combo to put this thing together.

If anybody sees any glaring mistakes don't hesitate to comment I am still a relative nube and can use both positive and negative feedback.

I have an e- smart metal edition. It is outfitted with 3 towerpro mg995 servos and 401/9254 combo. It has a set of HDX 550 carbons on it. everything is controlled by a JR 9303 72mhz system. I run it with 2 apache 11.1 V 3700mAh li-Po's. A really stable helicopter, good for a trainer but also do great 3D with the removal of flybar weights and replacement of the flybar paddle. Mine came with the main parts assembled(rortor head, frame, tailboom, tail rotor.) I also have replaced the tail rotor assembly with one that came with my trex 600.(the stock one acquired a tail case fracture after the 13th flight....go figure. I also replaced all bal links with the trex 600 ball and links( the plastic used on the links strips threads easy.) I got this heli to use as a test platform for different configuration I can think of and also maybe an AP ship.

Nice to see some one picked up thread.:)
Glad to hear you are actually flying the thing.:noteworthy
I Have been under the weather and am still in the adjusting and tweaking stage.
Had to make most of the links from the swash down to the servos from threaded rod, none of the supplied lengths would work.
The lack of Those links has put all of the rest of the flight linkages in question so I am very uncomfortable with the overall rigging.

The futaba radio is also a bit of a mystery as the programing seems to be different from any I have seen described in the threads on HF:arggg:

Could use some words of wisdom. working in fits and starts as health permits.

If the kit you have has the head assembled from the factory, swap out the long links for the ones not mounted on the head and the link from the washout arms needed to be swapped out for the ones that is not mounted on the head. I think they goofed up by placing the wrong links on the head. I had this problem and all I did was a simple swap. The control levers on the grips should be horizontal and parallel to the flybat at 0 pitch. Adjust all the links so that all the mixing arms and washout arms are horizontal and parallel to the flybar at 0 pitch. It took me a while to make this right. So far I like this heli. The plastic grip that came with my kits seems adequate for the wooden blades, but I suggest doing the metal upgrade if you plan on using carbons.
