View Full Version : The all time question.......BLADES AND PADDLES
Hi everyone,
This thread is intended to help pilots choosing blades and paddles for 3D flying, depending on models, altitude, ratio, cord, head speed, setup, etc
This started because I am getting my first 90 (raptor 90Se)
After going through the long and expensive ( 8 different sets) trial and error process to finally determine the right blades for my 30 size heli, I would like to brainstorm will all of you, to determine ( for me and all interested) the best choice, and make this process a little shorter and cheaper.
I hope everyone pitches in, specially the ones with experience. It would be helpful and educational to some and (I hope) entertaining to many.
My first choices:
for Raptor 90SE
700, 710 or 720 considering I fly @ 9000 ft and I want to pull tic-tocs without gasping for lift?
The manual recommends 710s but, you know manuals......!

I'd also suggest the 90 3D unless you just have to have the extra bling. It's lighter, has an upgraded head and some other nice touches the SE does not have, and is slightly cheaper.
Regardless, my preference is 690's on my Raptor 90's. I use Radix main blades and V-Blades 105mm paddles. I fly at pretty much at sea level. The 690's provide plenty of pop and bog much less than the longer blades. I've even flown with TT 680's and the response with 8.27 gearing is more than adequate for even aggressive 3d.

I noticed a big difference when I moved from sea level to 3500 feet. I was no longer happy with my Vblades. I bought Radix sb's, and superstubz and it's like all my power and lift is back.
Imho, I think radix are the way to go. You're never going to have the huge power like the heli's do at sea level...just so you know.

Bladechoice is both personal and depending on your altitude.

I've got radix blades on my 60.. they fly awesome. I've also got the red TT paddles (the 30 gram ones) and they still dont give me the flip rate i want...
Thanks everyone,
I think it´s going to be a mixture of high RPM (maybe 2000 ...and i hope the head can hold it) high nitro 710´s or 720´s and 20g stubs. I´m not sure about tail blades but I assume I´ll need 105´s
I´ll let you know when it hits the air!

I just got a Raptor 60 V1 partially upgraded to V2, Top Dragon head, OS 70, 9252's on cyclic and 9254 on the tail. I'm going to try a GY401 on it at first and see how it does.
I live at 3800 ft above sea level, so i'm trying to get blades/paddles right the first time.
I've got woodies on it now and TT CF 680's to install after I gain confidence in how I have the engine tuned. The flybar paddles are something I really want to upgrade and saw the V-Blade paddles, are they worth getting? What size should I get?
