The FP batteries have been hard to get for some time now so I bought a TP to tide me over for awile. I just purchased my second battery for my TRex600 and opened the package to find that sweet smell I know from a ruptured lipo. It looks fine, is in balance and there are no signs of fluids leaking. Just the smell which is very obviously coming from the end with the connectors protruding. Should I go ahead and solder up a connector and use it or have my LHS order another for me? Not really scared of it, just want to know if it still will be replaced if I go ahead and solder the connector and use it. My LHS does not stock these he orders them in on an as needed basis so I will have to wait.......... I do have two of the 4900's coming from Modefo's to compare, is there always a residual smell when packaged in bags?

Have you tried measuring the voltage of each cell?

Both TP and FP 5000 packs smell, I know, dont know why but it has been discussed in other threads as well.

I have about 50 cycles on mine now, still fine, but still smelly when I open my flightbox.

It's normal. Nothing like the smell of a virgin lipo.

Thanks for the replys. I did get the 4900's and they are the same. I called Flightpower yesterday just to ask and was told the smell is normal. I did not notice it on the TP pack when new because it was just in a box with bubble wrap around the pack. The smell is more evident when sealed in a plastic bag.

I wish they put off an oder that smells like a turbin.
