The only Castle I have ever used (CC85 HV) is the one in my e-Raptor 620 and the one I used to make my CC setup vids with.
It runs on 10S. Many folks I know have the same but don't run 10S they run 8 or 6S and have not had any problems. I think 10S is the issue with this thing.

I have had 4 now. Every one of them has failed within 10 to 20 flights and every time it has been the processor board going out. CC is very good with customer support but twice it caused me a crash. The last one failed in 10 flights. I flew, shot an auto and unplugged.... When I went to fly again plugged in and NOTHING... No beeps and no motor spin up although the LED blinks and arms properly... Again the processor board. Ask anyone that was there at the field when this last one went out and they will tell you the same thing... NO REASON that it happened....

Not trying to bash CC but I have yet to use any ESC that I went through 4 of them! I am done with them myself as I cant put trust in something that has given me that kind of grief. At this point it is a pure safety issues as I don't care about crashing but I can't have something that just goes out without knowing WHY....

Maybe I have been unlucky? I know it's not a setup issue.....
Bottom line in-between waiting for 4 replacement CC controllers I have been using a Hacker o-heli 77 and it has not caused a single problem. Not the best ESC but hey... it works!

So there is my story and I am sticking to it. No more CC for me sorry.....

I completely understand what you are saying Bob and think it comes down to the reality of things that no product or company is perfect for all applications.

In my case, Thunder Power Pro-Lite batteries earned my business with their outstanding performance vs. the competition at the time. When Thunder Power released the Extreme pack, I believed all the hype and subsequently went through three frustrating sets of under performing, short lived batteries! What kept me going was their customer service and willingness to acknowledge the flawed product. TP has now sent me a set of V2's and so far so good!

So, do we "throw the baby out with the bath water?" I've had my own frustrations with Castle, but for many applications they offer the most cost-effective and flexible (castle-link) ESC available. Many people, including myself, have sucess stories with Castle ESC's.

Warn the world against any combinations that don't work. I just found out that the Western Robotics 5A BEC I've recommended has interference issues w/ 72mHz and they've posted a warning on their site. In the meantime, it works great w/ my DX7.

The great thing about these boards is to share information and experiences. We need to take responsibility and try to convey as accurate information as possible. Thunder Power and Castle Creations are both great companies with well deserved success due to the popularity of their products. They are not perfect, but seem to want to improve as evidenced by their customer service and product improvement.

Jazz is only 5v BEC? Man that throws a wrench into my gear work. I want to run 6v.

Well if I have to run a BEC anyway I will stick with the CC35. I don't think it would have fried if the motor didn't come loose inside.

Should have a new Scorpion 45amp esc this weekend, I hope. Til then? This esc is wacky, it must be the one out of a thousand.

What amazes me most is the Hacker motor and esc I bought from Vic. The ESC is a 25amp pro, kinda small but hasn't given me one problem, not even a hickup or fart, nothing, notta, zilch.....perfect....

I"m tempted to try the Otter 35amp if the Scorpion doesn' t show up by Saturday.

I've also still got the CC 35amp on the way, w/castlelink.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

Fly your heli for over an hour on one battery! Wouldn't that be great!

P.S. Sean that other battery was heavy because of the metal casing.

Mitch,

How's the 90 coming?

It really doesn't need much but some wires run and plumb it.

I've been sidetracked by the Scorpion debacle but have decided to throw the Scorpion in the "to do box "and work on the Raptor. I have a 450 that works perfect, Hacker. I think what's got me is that I've been working on the scorpion rex for sooooo long that I keep trying to get it going. Another one of those "got a buncha money in it and it doesn't fly" kinda deal.

I think my issue with the Raptor is that I'd rather do nothing than do something wrong, wait til I have help by somebody that knows what they're doing.

I'll be working on the RAptor 90 til it's done tonight, I"ve got 4 days off, no excuses.

I got all the parts to fix the Scorpion Trex, still need a good esc for it though and didn't want to buy another one since the Scorpion esc is being replaced by innovate designs and I already bought a CC 35 amp too.

May have some questions about the Raptor tonight, stay tuned........;)

PS: Shawn. Could you get rid of the POO please...

Here's what the camo horizontal and vertical stabilizers look like now, after a couple coats of nitro proof paint. :)

Color isn't quite right in the pics, in person it looks right.

Nice contrast should be easy to see.

By the way Christmas is tonight here. My kids are with the ex for Christmas so we will open tonight and let them play until the 24th at 4pm. Make sure you guys pick the right one to have kids with...

Anyway point being I will build the RCT-450. I am so excited to have a completely different flying 450.

Well.......when I got this thing it was partially assembled, I got the servos and tried to install them, rod lengths per the manual (that I downloaded and printed on line) were off to make it work, by a Lot! So I figured the guy didn't know what he was doing, so I started at the top and everything was way off from what the manual says. I went through and
set everything per the manual and this thing is so far off now that I'm thinking my manual isn't the right one.

Now I know why this thing isn't done......:bomb: Wish I had a friend that knew how to build this.

I'm not really even pissed, more like depressed and want to sell off the parts I can't use on something else. What a waste of time!

Why don't you post your problem in the Nitro Raptor section of HF?

Problem is my manual can NOT be the right one. I have no idea which one it is if it's not the std raptor 90?

I just set the linkage where I think it should go and moving on. Need to make a few more pieces of linkage and then plug it all in.

The heli is totally different than anything I've done before and has components I've never used too.

Gotta remember, I'm really new to this, hell, Jason set up my first few Trex 450s and my first one needed near a complete rebuild, which Gene was kind enough to do for me.

Helifreak? No, just a freak. :smokin:
