Had a good day at the Basin/Apollo field. Everything flew good. The Raptor likes to be inverted ....my last flight I set the timer for 10 minutes (I've never used the timer before on the Raptor) and when the timer went off I came back in and when I got back to the pit area I looked at the fuel level, nothing in the main tank and about 1/2 inch of fuel in the header tank.....whew......:smokin: went and picked up another gallon of cool power and some new fuel line, the stuff I had on there was too small ID and I'm sure that was causing the idling problem, should run better now, ran great but just didn't like to idle, Bert thought is sounded lean, he was probably right. Gotta love OS! :noteworthy

The ESC on the Scorpion needs to be reset before each flight or it won't completely stop the motor, had the L set at +125% at one point and it keeps going up after each flight so I just reset the range before each flight, that works but is a pain in the ass. They gotta get that figured out if they want to keep selling them. The Scorpion motor doesn't have as much pop as the Hacker, going to put a 13t pinion on to see if that helps..

GREAT DAY!

Going to do it again tomorrow. :YeaBaby:

The C spec 91 is really hard to get to turn over, I tried a few different peoples starters and they wouldn't do it, my Sullivan wouldn't do it until I hooked it up to the car battery..

really i thought it is hot new motor for 450. i am just about to get 1, but guess i will stay with my JGF 500th. i final got right setup on my esc for the 500 th.. running 14T fly 5 mins flat on 100% flat throttle. (charger kick back 2000mah into my 2200 mah pack.. may be this is too much for the pack ). this motor keep the hs spinning from 1st min to the last.

today at Abort Park a festival of trex 500. they are out number the 450 and 600 e helis.

use a 6s lipo to power that starter. mine is rated 12volt but it spins the 90 like crazy on 6s.

Im having some trouble with one of my kong power batteries:thumbdown:. One of them sucks, and I cycled it 5 times for 3 minutes and now it struggles after about 20-30 seconds of flying:mad:(no idle up). What should I do, send it back?

Damned right! I use my 600 packs after I've flown 'em, and they're just the ticket to crank a 90. Just make sure you've pulled the plug and blown out any fuel that might be in the engine, or you might break something.

My C spec is very hard to turn over. I've got the Sullivan Makita set up on the way, waiting for battery, have everything else for it. I used this set up at Whittier and it had it's problems, wasn't mine, will not power thru, have to keep popin the starter til it goes, and that is with the starter to end all starters....

Might need to put more shims in the head to reduce compresion. It's my first nitro heli and I don't know what is right or wrong. I DO know that I like it and I'm having a blast with it.

Picked up some light flybar paddles while at Pegasus, the Stubz don't seem right, seem like they belong on a 50 size they are so small. I had the stockers on it today.

The Scorpion might be? I put the 13t pinion on it and will test again tomorrow. I really think it needs the 13t to make it shine. We'll see. :smokin:

It did ok with a fresh battery, needs more though.

I don't know what to make of the ESC though. It's not like I haven't tried everything with it. The one I have now is better than the first one, since it works....It just wasn't designed to do what we want it to. Just my opinion.

My experience with a C-Spec that's pretty new is that it tends to hydrolock very easily, I suspect because it's so tight. Before my first flight, I HAVE TO pull the plug and blow it out. If I just hit it with the starter on 6S, I'd probably break the con rod or something.

Of course you should send it back.

Make sure that the pump on the C-spec does not have a hole in the diaphragm!!
It may still work fine but just sitting there it will hydro-lock EASY as fuel migrates up from the pump into the crank case!

Take the pump out of the bottom and you should not be able to blow air through the crank case tube!

This happened to me twice on my C-Spec and the tell tail was constant hydro-locking!

Also when you done flying for the day blow any fuel out of the pump. Don't leave it sitting in there!

Met up with Rob/Zguy at Irvine for a day of un interupted flying. No crashs and I've got the idling problem fixed on the Raptor, the fuel tubing I used (per hobby shop dudes recommendation) was too small, I put bigger fuel line on it and it ran perfect, didn't even bother messing with it, just flew it.

I love the Nitro 90, what a great heli.

On the Scorpion set up, it is WAY better with the 13t pinion, now it has more power than the Hacker and is my favorite Trex, even with woodies. Rob figured out the ESC problem, throttle hold was set to -5% and that was causing the problem, set it to 0% and it works like it's supposed to now.

I've run about a gallon and a half thru the 90 and I've started leaning it out a click at a time, only one click so far, not in a big hurry to lean it out. Yesterday the head temp was 180deg, today it was 155deg, the fuel tubing helped a lot. Also, the motor is hydro locking, how do I fix this problem? New diaphram? and how do I get all the fuel out after a day of running it?, ?pull glow plug and turn it over til it's dry?

Anyways, excellent day.

January fun fly? What weekend do we have clear for us to have a fun fly?

Mitch,

If the motor is hydro-locked, pull the plug, cut off the fuel supply to the pump, open the throttle, and crank the motor over with the starter. Be prepared for it to spit fuel out of the glow plug opening like mad. Do this until is stops spraying.

Make sure that you close the throttle again before you attempt to start it.

OS says to cut off the fuel and run the motor dry at the end of each flying session. This is good for the pump/pump diaphram, but bad for the motor (I never, ever run them dry at the end of each session, no matter what you read in all the magazines). It is bad for the piston, ring and sleeve and bad for the bearings (electrolysis seems to be the culprit on the OS .50 bearings, not moisture-according to Finless).

The only exception to this is if you are going to put it in very long term storage.

I think you were also running Cool Power and it is supposed to have the equivalent of after run oil in the fuel.

hi guys, sorry for MIA, had my wisdom teeth taken out and i thought i could hack it but i obviously couldn't and didn't want to fly a helicopter while i was still drowsy.

i do plan on hitting up either the basin or whittier tomorrow for some flying.

i have for sale a few items that must go asap so anyone in the area if they are interested, please PM me and ill arrange for meeting you up asap and locally and for anyone local, ill give a break in price.

1) vblades tst 600mm. used only one flight. no dings, dents, scratches, or fuel marks. retail $115, will sell for $100 to any local person.

2) vpaddles 80mm. used only one flight, no dings, dents, scratches, or fuel markets. retail is $25. will sell for $20 to any local person.

3) jason krause special hatori pipe one piece pipe (sb-50hp). this came off my trex 600 nitro. never crashes. its not polished, its been cleaned of all fuel marks. the only minor flaw is that one of the threads on the pipe strips very easily and thus you will need to simply put a nut on the other side to hold the pipe on securely. will include the rubber hose deflector and a blue fuel plug. retails about $140, will sell for $50 to any local person. used 6 flights, this item is ready to go.

4) trex 450, complete align gray metal head and tail. the head has a brand new main hub, new washout, and new swashplate with of course brand new links already calibrated so it would be good to go. also has trueblood dampeners in the head with another two pairs. including another brand new 6 spindals 3mm. the tail will also be ready to go. both items have been test flown and have 0 vibrations. asking about $140 for both head and tail to any local person. im selling this item because im running a setup that is spinning close to 4000rpm on the head. this item is ready to go.

5) rcp blades 600mm brand new in the bag. these blades are great for learning on any 50 size heli. they have flash tape on the tips for visibility. looking for $40 for any local person.
