Long is out of the country so I believe the next "official" FunFly is in February. I asked him when I seen him buying his N9 parts. Kid has a great attitude about crashing his N9 he was in great spirits still.
I would like an unofficial FunFly if someone can open the gate. I think Mitch has that power. Let's do an unofficial FunFly yeah? I vote for the 13th or the 27th. 27th is better as I have no spares just two 450 helis right now. I need spares.

I see that I posed two times in response to Finless and then after replying the last post it wasn't showing up. Anyone else have this problem? Is my computer just going whacky? I closed all HeliFreak pages and opened this one and there the post was.

Hey Jason, I gotta question. I'm getting ready to put the magnets on my 600n fan, and I need to know if I should buy a new fan or not. Is the stock one really that bad? What exactly does it do bad?

sean, while its not that important i do suggest you put a metal fan on your engine b/c the sideway of the plastic that holes the magnet in is very small and being plastic, overtime ive thrown several myself and its a real pain. the metal one you can just epoxy inside and be done with.

Had a change of plans and didn't make it to Whittier. It was windy @ Sunland and not as fun as it usually is. Field seems small after haven flown down at Irvine, I like the Irvine field, only thing is it's a bit of a drive but is nice because there isn't a big crowd and you don't have to wait long to fly. Rob and I had the place to ourselves last time.
If we can get info on Sunland field availability we can plan a January funfly.
The 20th would be my pick and I'm sure we'll have no problem getting access, ie. da gate.
The following is just my opinion and I have no authority and or official position with SCHC.
We DO need to run a little tighter ship with the funflyZ, ie. flight line, everyone needs to set up behind the fence for safety. Vic lost control of his Mars heli and it was very close to hitting a few people. If there wasn't anyone but active pilots on or near the flight line then this wouldn't of even been close.
And anyone that looses control of their bird needs to yell "DEAD STICK" if it happens, and it will so get used to calling out dead stick if you lose your bird. People also need to be aware that we are not the only ones that use that field and need to pick up after ourselves. Just my .02. Not a big deal but we need to be more aware and safety is priority.

The 20th is ok for me but I will have to bring my kids. They are too spoiled anyway and can find some things to do while I fly. Anyone have an extra nimh charger they can bring?
Mitch I agree with what you said except I believe guys who have signed the waiver and choose to setup there stuff just behind the line should be allowed to do so. I am not that brave but by all means to each their own. Of course I have no authority here either.

Told you it was easy.
finally found the main gear I need for my Raptor 90.
My gearing is 8.54 to 1 and to run right with my set up I need 8.24 to 1 per Curtis Youngblood. edit here....crap, I made a mistake and was reading the wrong stuff..........8 to 1 is what CY recommends. I can't find a 90t main gear.
I checked the headspeed and it's really close to what the revmax calculator says it should be, unfortunately in order to get the headspeed I want 1950 I would need to run the engine at too high of RPM, running a 91t main gear with 11t pinion should put the engine in it's sweet spot and give me the headspeed I'm after.
A 1950 headspeed puts the engine at 16131 rpm's, unless I"m mistaken 16k is the max recommended engine rpm but have read of others pushing the 91 c spec into the 17k range.
Bob: You've had a few of these and ran them, does this seem right?

Also, I've been leaning out the engine a little at a time. From what I've read about the OS engine, per their web site they say a tank or two and tune it because the engines are very tightly controlled and manufacturing is such that a long break in is not required.
What I've been doing is leaning it out 3 clicks at a time, the manual calls for 2 turns out for break in and tune from there, I'm at 1&3/4 turns out. I'm checking engine temps after a run and they are consistently around 145 to 150 max and have been a little cooler. I'm shooting for `160 deg, I have no reason for this number other than that seems about right to me.
When I first ran this engine I had too small of fuel tubing on it and it ran lean and temps were around 180 deg, this might have hurt the engine but it's too late to do anything about it now.
When I ask people about engine temps they say if you can put your hand on the engine back plate for more than 5 seconds without getting too hot it's ok...........this method doesn't work for me, I need facts. What's hot on one persons hand is not to another.
I can't believe people take motor temps on the electrics but nobody does on nitro engines.
Anyways. that's where I'm at with the 91 C spec.
After a bit more research I've found that the closest gearing set up I can get to what I want is 95t main with 12t pinion and that nets me a 7.92 to 1 gear ratio, which means I can spin the head up higher and keep the engine rpms a bit lower.
This means I'll be relying on the tourqe/grunt of the engine and hope the MP I put on helps in this respect. Tuning for peak power will be a factor here also.
I've read that the Raptor 90 comes alive at above 1900 headspeed and I'll need this gearing to achieve that.
I like wicked headspeed.
I ordered the 95t and already have the 12t pinion.
My max headspeed will be around 2021 at just below 16000 rpms
Keeping in mind that I don't plan on running that, 1950 seems about right, I think.
combined with the Radix blades this should be a real fun set up. :smokin:

I hope the part I need gets to the hobby house today. I got my 600n all upgraded and ready to go. It's gonna fly so good:)
I hear ya Mike, I hope it isn't windy tomorrow. At least for right now, the wind has stopped blowing at my house. It better stay that way or I'll die of flight withdrawal syndrome:bawl
