The Raptor is ready to fly with it's new gearing, max headspeed @ 15994 rpms is 2020.

The motor will cruise along a little easier when not doing max 3D flying. It would be nice IF I could get an expert to tune my OS91 c spec. I'm still way rich and there is a lot more power to be had. Just some general guidelines would be nice. I know it's "4 stroking" right now, I want to get it on the pipe and putting out the power it is capable of. It's going to need it with the gearing I put in it.

I didn't buy "Radix stick bangers" for nothin. :smokin:

use a tach to adjust needle, fly upwind and record rpm then fly downwind and recheck rpm, each time lean the needle one click then check Rs when max rpm is recorded open needle 1-2 clicks..if Rs decrease when leaning needle back off and check head temp. it helps to have a good ear or a good buddy with a tach.

I've been looking for the tach that you can read headspeed from a distance, I know it's about $90 but I'm not sure which one to buy? I need one.

D00D @ Whittier had one that he could read the headspeed from 30ft easy, if it was hovering somewhat.

you need the shutter type, it works like a movie cam, $90....dont be worried about running too lean unless it aint smokin. a good pyrometer gives accurate settins also, it should read less than 210*f at the head before cooldown. good luck, and remember humidity and temp also have an effect.take your time and break it in slow or it will cost you a (******) burnt engine.

ummmmm, I never burn an engine. I had a defective crank shaft that was bad on the YS50. Just to look on RunRyder and you will see that a few others have experienced the same thing as me or even worse.

Thanks. My temps are around 160 so I know I have room to work with.

Thanks again.

Vic: Do you really know what happened?

Please tell me what happened.

******s issue had nothing to do with improper break in.

My OS91 C spec is broke in, but I'll still be cautious with it.

The crank shaft just cracked a few months back when Bert was testing my Nitro. It was the craziest thing ever. I sent it in to YS Parts and Service and they fix it right up like brand new. Here's another guy who had his crack worse than me.

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t389953p1/?highlight=ys50+crankshaft

But now I do need a new check valve as the one was using on it this past Sunday was not working properly which was preventing my YS50 from idling right. But, I threw the OS Hyper 50 in instead so next time out I won't have to mess with it as much and get that sucker tuned right after the first flight.

I'm going to run an OS50 in my Trex 600N.

I bought another Scorpion -8, only this one is a V2, the one I have is a V1, it works great and I can't wait to compare it to the V2. I'm hoping to get a V2 to replace the V1, we'll see. Lucien at innov8tivedesigns has hooked me up before..

I'm going to fly the back lot at work tomorrow with the Scorpion, if it's not raining. It's been too dark to fly after work lately. :(

ill will hopefully soon have the scoprion motor on my 500 along with a few upgrades and prototype things, should have a very high performing trex 500 within a few days :glasses2:

my 450 ive decided after some prototype testing with the scoprion -6 is way too fast, i have switched down to the -8 personally for the time being.

hey Jason, what scorpion are you going to run on the 500? once i get a dragonus 500 i am definetly going with a scorpion :)

Whittier requires AMA huh? I am going to buy a plank next project and I would love to get together with the plank guys. Do you have to have AMA just to go watch?

Man at 5am this morning the rain was coming down HARD in the valley. All last night at home too so probably it is this hard everywhere. Hope no one loses property from slides or anything...

Ah Clem

Mike,

You do not have to have AMA to watch.

Whittier Narrows is a nice, huge field.

Yeah, it was raining like mad last night.

I am getting a very small amount of time to work on machines at lunch, during the day. Raptor 50 now has a metal head (with adjustable swashplate timing) and the tail pulley has been modified so that, hopefully, the drive pin will not come out.

If it keeps raining, I will start replacing the ball links on he TREX 450 head.

Not flying is really annoying.

Hope you are doing well.

Mike, you can get a trial AMA Membership for like $19 bucks for a few months.

That rain was comming down hard. It kept waking me up all night. I'm gonna be tired now all day!!!

tim- i have a large indoor gym, 2 basketball courts with stands, about 3-4 stores high, at my school that i can fly in. i certainly can't bring a bunch of people in here though.

tyler- i think im going to run the same scoprion as kevin (fireup), the 1400kv version on perhaps a 15t pinion. it should be a ridiculously fast 500 from the video i saw of kevin flying his. i think you will like it, btw when is the dragonous coming out?

vic- feb 2 at whittier is cool, i want to see sean fly 3d on his 450 and 600. i on the other hand need to figure out what im going to do about that snapped flybar rod in flight that happened on my 600 at santa fe dam.

fortunately it isn't raining where im located, its every so once and a while when it would drizzle some. if all goes well, i should have a ridiculously built 500 with a few upgrades. ill probably post that information on my website so you can check it out.

peace guys, keep flying! :noteworthy

Just got the 1600KV Scorpion and will be trying that myself.... The 1400KV is hot but realize it's not free e.g. you will suck your packs down faster running a higher head speed and "using" more power, and thats a fact.
The efficiency different between the Align motor and any other motor will not get you a huge difference in fight time (maybe 15 seonds)! Don't expect more than reality... But Quality and other things are the consideration! Reliability of this Scorpion looks like it is going to be good!
