Hi guys,
It is a long time I have not posted on here. Now I am back.
I think we cannot have a funfly at the Tujunga field anymore since the field manager requested a new contract and new rules for this year last time I talked to him. In addition, this hobby is dangerous and holding a funfly without getting covered by AMA is really out of our liability.
I think we can have our funflies at Whitter Narrows which is an AMA field. That is a really nice field since it is huge and grassy. However, everybody has to get an AMA. I got one for myself last week. I'm going to fly there sometimes after the rain ends.
Weather has been so bad these days and I got my luck to be able to burn a gallon yesterday at the basin. I feel much better.
The vacation in Vietnam was great. I wanted to stay there more but I could not because school started last week. Here are some pictures of a funfly I joined in there. I won an AIRPLANE KIT!!!

Long that is ok Sunland is too dang windy anyway. I am getting AMA soon I had to get Phoenix first. Whittier is a great idea! Glad you had such a nice visit to Vietnam. Even more glad that you are back. Kind of selfish that way.

in conjunction to what long had said, there have been a few incidents in the past that i wasn't particularly thrilled about, things that were very dangerous indeed, i know there were new faces but really, the rules do not bend for anybody including myself. as long mentioned, flying in places such as whittier and arrows or the sepulveda basin is good because they are a dedicated field whereas the tijunga field is a baseball field. its a good location but for he larger funflies, things tend to get alittle roudy which it shouldn't be. these are dangerous toys and after having a helicopter nearly hit me and hitting my friend, hearing someone got 3 fingers chopped off recently from a trex 600 nitro, hearing people breaking bones from blades hitting their legs, people that i know personally, it really is no joke anymore and i think we should all take things very seriously when flying.
i think when we fly in general, we should always make sure the following:
1) that our helicopter is in fact in flyable condition, none of this jerry rigging stuff (not pointing fingers)
2) range test our machines that day before we take any of them up (not pointing fingers)
3) communicate clearly with those who are flying and give people when flying there space (not pointing fingers)
4) dont fly so close to yourself (not pointing fingers but im guilty of this)
5) fly out and away from you, if your in trouble, have a plan to bail AWAY from people
6) spectators to stand at least 20ft behind you
7) do not fly near people, when you chop someones head off, it isn't so funny anymore.
alll in all, what others have said is completely true and we do need to take action before something terrible would happen.
if you have anything to say about this, questions or concerns, PM me, this isn't intended to be angry, authoritative, or any such nature.

Thanks Jason for making a good statement concerning flight safety. AMA is the best idea now for our club since we are now going on our second year in for SCHC. If your serious about heli flying anything 450 size and up, AMA protects you and those around you.
Whittier field is a really great field guys. Presonally, its my favorite field in the area. If you want to see some video's of people flying at that field, look for:

Jason someone needs to take charge and everyone respects you and listens to you. Anyone who doesn't listen to or respect you has no respect from the rest of us. So you're nominated!
Edit:
Oh and sorry for being guilty of knowing I had a failing part and flying anyway. Didn't crash or go badly but wasn't exactly a show of intelligence.

its for the better of all of us.
mike, you have my respect. everyone has my respect and i dont want you guys to think any one of us are higher than anyone else. im a human being, your a human being, so that means we are all the same
mike, i wasn't pointing fingers at anybody, so dont admit your guilt, we all know what were guilty of and because we cannot change the past, we should not worry about that, instead we should focus on what we can improve.

My 2 cents. I would like to start flying with u guys again when my schedule lightens up. As for future Fun Flies and a field, Its going to have to be at Sepulveda Basin. The Whittier Narrows field is maintained and run by SGVRCL. San Gabriel Valley Radio Control League. They only hold Fun Fly events cleared and sanctioned by AMA and or a major flying company such as IMAC, Quickie etc. They will not allow a public gathering of a "semi heli club" Fun Fly. In the event that SCHC takes the next step to be recognized as a Sanctioned Club under AMA by laws, we can only use that facility to meet and fly. If you publicize it on a site as a SCHC Fun Fly, trust me Ken will open a can of whoop ass and throw everyone out AMA insurance or not. How do I know this? I grew up flying fixed wings at that field with my dad. Better hold the Fun Flies at Sepulveda and be able to fly than to get shut down at the get go. As far as I know, the heli area at the Basin has no Regs for any gatherings. or... its time to find another home field.

I am willing to pitch in for a field but I need some heads up. I am jockeying into position to become very good I am really working on it now. So I will have to unschedule one of my next purchases.

I would be interested to know what the deal was with the old field.
I personally like Whitter best over Apollo.
Another alternative could be Sante Fe dam flying field, it is private but we might be able to some kind of agreement with the club? If enough of us were to join the club that would help, I would join and might join anyways, it's close to my house.
On a side note: I took back the spektrum servos because they are sloppy. I bought the HS56HBs for the CopterX200 instead, as well as a 6100 instead of the 6000.

I'm not denying that Whittier is a nice flying site. I'm just stating the facts behind using that facility for a fun fly. SCHC not being a sanctioned club, fun fly events at Whittier will not take place. As for Santa Fe Dam, someone in charge of SCHC can attend one of their monthly club meetings and propose a donation or something to use their field once a month for a Fun Fly. Besides, they have members who fly with our club anyways. That would be a nice site. Private and nothing around to damage. Picnic tables, shade, runway, shitter all there. :)
