That's what we do to empty our lipos when it is raining and you charged them thinking you would be flying.

Anybody check out this secret flying field??

Hi everyone,

I have recently accepted a new job in San Diego and will be moving down there very soon. I am writing this post to reveal my secret flying location so that it does not go to waste now that I am leaving! I have kept this a tightly held secret for many years! If anyone reading this post lives in Pasadena or even the greater Los Angeles area take note. My ultimate heli flying site is located off of the the 110 freeway between downtown L.A. and Pasadena. Unless you are truly living in the neighborhood you would never think that open space exists in this area, but it does, and it is a GREAT spot with nobody hassling you. The site is located on a street named Via Marisol in an area dubbed the "Monterrey Hills". If you exit the 110 freeway onto Via Marisol (the exit is from the northbound 110 only so Googlemap the spot if you are interested....it is in the city of Los Angeles) you simple make a right turn and go up the hill. It is on the left hand side going up the hill right before a street called Temple Terrace. The spot is a wide open and level area roughly the size of two football fields and a fringe benefit is that it is located on a hillside so you can swing the helicopter out over open space and even enjoy commanding views of eastern Los Angeles while you fly!

This spot has been my secret for many years and my Christmas gift to everyone on the forum is that I am revealing the location. PLEASE....if anyone uses the site...be respectful and do NOT fly over the adjacent townhouse communities as I don't want this spot to be ruined by reckless flying. The winds kick up in the afternoon so I suggest flying up there in the morning.

Again, Happy Holidays to everyone and have fun up on "the hill"!

Vic: we could not use that site without the owners permission to do so.

We could have a funfly at Whittier, it's just that we wouldn't have the place to ourselves, which is fine. It would be more of a gathering such as the last time (that most didn't show up to because we were at sante fe dam). As long as we didn't try to do anything other than what is permitted at the field I don't see the problem.

I think the Santa Fe Dam site would be perfect and if a good amount of us were members we would have more pull to do a funfly there. A funfly that we still shared the field with others/plankers........All food for thought...

One day a month that all the other members of Santa Fe Dam knew that it would be "Heli day". it would bring more money to their club.

I think it's doable but I'm an optimist.:smokin: :YeaBaby:

Just wanted to clarify the situation with the SCHC/Sunland Baseball field. I've enjoyed flying there this last year, but according to Jason the original contract has ended and will not be renewed. To avoid any confusion or conflicts I believed it was important (and Jason agreed) to post the following reasons for ending the contract:

first, we wont get a key, we need to call ron every time we want to go, and our terms last time was for once a month but really we are going once a week. a few times we left garbage out when we promised to keep the field clean. finally, a few of us put out the $700 and we dont even fly there anymore or use it the most, if we can find people to contribute and abide by the rules, then maybe we can redo a contract, but as of now, we aren't going to renew.

This is very clear to me and I won't be going back to Sunland unless I hear that things have changed.
I'll be on the lookout for new places to fly and hopefully everyone will be doing the same.

I'm happy to fly with you guys anywhere. It's the people, not the place.

Too much wind. Wind is ok don't get me wrong but we live at the base of the desert mountains and we get the crosswinds. Hence the name of the flying field. Winds from multiple directions sucks...

Pete, is that Whittier field privately owned or public?

So no more funflies:bawl:bawl:bawl:bawl! Well, I guess I just have to stick to flying at my park.

It will work out don't panic Scott.

If Pete says Ken will have a problem with it I wouldn't doubt him. Everyone else seems to have a problem with SCHC for no sound reason.

We just have to look around for another field. Everyone keep an eye out.

As I said, I'll send an e-mail to the owner of canyon crosswinds to see if we could use it for heli's only once a month or something.

Well I mean we could have a "gathering" at my park if NO ONE else is there, like 450's would be ok but, 600s or even 500 s would be to big to safely fly there.

Man I can't wait to get Pheonix. I still can't get RealFlight to stop blowing the tail out on me in inverted backwards flight. Which I am used to now and I just start flying inverted forward and always considered it great practice. When I am trying to learn inverted backwards huricanes and the tail blows out I just dump it. I can do inverted funnels all day with it but it trips out on inverted backwards. I get Pheonix the 30th I want to hook up with some of you guys.

Do it anyway Sean. Me and two other guys were thinking of starting up a CCHC not so formal as SCHC but I know like 5 people out here already. Jason from Hobby People is one of the guys.

If SCHC did move the field here we could be Santa Clarita Helicopter Club! :P

Man SCHC is a great club I am not really trying to start my own club. I wouldn't mind having something to do when everyone else goes to the OC. I can't afford that gas man.

Well, we did that, (go back a few pages) only the peeps didn't show up, some did but most were at Santa Fe Dam. You know I respect what you have say.

Here's the way I look at, there is NOTHING that says a group can't meet an hang out and fly their Heli's. Now, IF we were to try to do "Drag races" and "Auto rotation" contests then I could see the problem. If all we are doing is flying like the rest that are there then there is no issue as far as I'm concerned. Enlighten me, what rules would we have broken?

"I reserve the right to change my opinion after I hear what you have to say" <-----this is my motto.

I"m thinkin we need to contact Santa Fe Dam club and see if we can work something out.

I don't like Apollo field for a few reasons, one, the wind is always an issue there, two, nothing but concrete to crash on. It's not that grass is any better but concrete has no give at all.

My favorite flying field is Whittier.

For those that don't have an AMA membership: Why not? If you did purchase one and don't have a card yet you can/could have printed out your receipt and that is valid proof of membership. Renewal is only $29 per year, at least that what I paid this month.

The reason for that is because your second year is prorated depending on when you first joined. I'm guessing you joined shortly after the middle of 2007.

Sorry didn't want that to come across like I'm a ***** or anything. Just hate to see a fun fly get shut down is all. Like u said, ya if there was a few of us wanting to fly at Whittier, then totally cool. I'm talking fun flies. Like we do bbq's, have Bert come out, n stuff and or if its advertised on a Forum, if its labeled as a "Fun Fly" then there is a liability issue at the field. Hope schc finds a field soon.
