View Full Version : Anyone using the TT metal blade holders on their MT?

Anyone using the TT brand metal blade holders on their Mini Titan if so I have a question.
The metal blade holders come with inner and outer bearings as well as the conned spacers and the thrust bearing. My question concerns the thrust bearing. There is a ball race and only one side runner instead of two thrust bearing sides. On inspection it seems that the thrust ball race must run against the inner area of the blade holder itself.
Both blade holders were missing one side of the thrust bearing so I don't believe it is a case of missing parts.
Can anyone give me some feedback on what I have raised.
Thanks.

Hi Glenn,
I am expecting some TT metal blade holders to arrive either today / tomorrow, along with the a top metal mixing arm and a bottom metal mixing arm :)
(To sort my blade tracking out hopefully - my TT woodies did not come with a plastic cover, so an using align blades with the spacers)
So, I will let you know what my metal blade grips come with when they arrive, unless someone else answers before me :)

I am running TT metal blade grips, not sure how the thrust races go as they were already installed so I just put them straight on the feathering shaft and they seem fine.
I happen to think the tracking issue is more to do with stiff stock dampers than grips. I Put the G-fore head on with sport dampers and problem was gone. I just replaced the grips as I changed the whole head assmbley over to metal from the swash up.

It happened to me that the metal blade holder was factory installed incorrecty . The outer and inner washer of thrust bearing was at the same side . The bearings can be easily taken out . I corrected them in the same way as the plastic version . So far I do not have any compliant . By the way, I am using Fun-key 325mm carbon and Align woodie blade .

I've got the TT metal blade grips and I just installed them like they came.. they work fine ,tracking is absolutely spot on.. I've got them in combination with the TT upper and lower alu mixing arms.. now it's lovely.. crisp collective, crisp cyclic and added stability with spot on tracking, man I love this machine..
How do you notice that the bearing installation isn't correct?

Hi Glenn,
Posty dropped off a parcel for me today:
I have attached 2 piccies of what my metal blade grips look like - except the two MT ball links :)
they seem to have all the bits pre-installed but will probably find out tomorrow in the daylight if it works :)
Hope these photos are useful, think I need a higher res camera \/\/

Thankyou to everyone that took the time to give me feedback on this subject.
I greased and installed my blade grips as they came and there is no end play on the spindle and the tracking is spot on. Either the grips are designed for the ball race to work against the internal ledge or the inner bearing side is a very tight fit and would not come out.
But for those who are thinking about getting the TT blade holders go for it as they work well.
Thanks again.

BTW
I am using the align 325 blades with the spacers I used with the plastic grips with the new metal grips.
The blades are amazingly stiff (really really really really stiff). Anyone know if I should not use the spacers now ? I know I had to with the plastic blades.
At least I have no tracking problems now ):

Andy
I still use the TT plastic spacers with my metal blade holders and align blades.

Hi Glenn,
Do you find the blades to be really tight ?
I have a job turning the blades with no bolt holding them in the blades.
Thanks

Mine are not that tight! But they are tighter than what they were with the plastic holders, but they are managable.
