View Full Version : Need hover recording of 450

I've only flown the CX, and now have a 450SE. I promised mysleft that I wouldn't spin it up until I was much more confident on the sim so I just got PhoenixRC.
I was surprised at how squirely the TRext450 was to hover. I posted the question of if the sim was accurate, and most agreed that it was. Could one of you heli-jocks post a Phoenix recording of a hover using the 3D Trex with zero wind? I just want to see what I need to work towards. The sim won't stay in place more than a second before it drifts off, picking up speed as it goes...
Thanks
Regards,
Eric Sanders

Don't try to hover the 3D 450, try the 600 (its a little slower), honestly its not easy with any of them at first but if you keep at it it'll come to you.
I can hover very well in real life, but on the sim not nearly as good.
The hover training dosn't seem quite right, sounds good on paper, but dosn't work for me.

Perhaps I'm expecting too much. I'm used to hovering the CX and landing on my small table. I can hover the TRex450 sim within a 10' circle for a while before it gets away from me and then I regain control after a short while. I have a hard time landing too. If I'm moving at all sideways when I land, I tip and kill the blades. I found that it worked best to quickly give negative pitch once I get close to the ground.
That brings up another question, what is the landing sequence that works best?

Well, I just did a short hover recording, and then a bit of hot dogging in the end, (I'm much more comfortable in FFF than hovering). It comes up in the list, but I can't find it anywhere on the hard drive!? Where the heck to they end up? I even checked in the obvious "Recordings" folder and nadda.. I did a search for the .rec files and couldn't find it either.

When you rec a flight, it will stop when you crash or when you stop it, you then need to press save and give it a name and pilot. Once you have done that it should be in a folder in documents\phoenixrc\recordings\
You can tell if you have successfully saved it by clicking on the view recording, and it should show up there. Would love to see it

Thanks for the reply dale. It didn't dawn on me it would be in the My Documents folder! Anyway, I found it and have it here for anyone to watch. It's pretty crude hovering, but I've only flown a CX for a month and had the simulator for a week. Man, the TRex sure is a lot different hovering than the CX!
I used the Sport version of the 450 in Phoenix for the recording.
I put it on my server at:

Thanks for that, I will have a look, it will be interesting. I would love to know what transmitter you are using at the moment as well

I went all out and got the DX7 to use with my TRex (when I get the nerve to fly it...).

Ok so here is one I did, almost had it at the start, but then lost it towards the end . Once those little buggers get away from you. I think it is better to put them down and then start again!

That fantastic Eric. I have just started flying, and therefore only have a esky lama v3 at the moment. I am hoping Santa (better half) will bring me a DX7 and then planning on building a TREX myself.

I got the Blade CX in a package deal with the Rotofly, and a rc boat. I traded the boat for a Honeybee fixed pitch. I tried flying the rotofly and the honeybee without success, so I did what any obsessed fool would do, I bought a TRex! I bought it used, but didn't like they way the electronics had been mounted, and all the ball links were loose so I'm replacing them as well. I ordered three Hextronics batteries, but they are backordered until first week of Sept.
Thank God for that, or I certainly would have tried flying it before I had got the sim and crashed it....
You'll like the DX7. You have a little under four months to start buttering her up!

Just saw your hover rec Dale, nice job! I'd love to see a rec file from a veteran flyer as well just to see what we ought to be aiming for mate!

Yeah it is really hard to know what you should be aiming for when you have never seen it before

I find the trex-450 to to way more twitchy then my real trex-450....BUT I put on the gorilla gear paddles and using full weights while I learn,,,It is very stable in this configuration and when I am ready, I can jsut cut the weights in half and make much more twithy...
I still ahve no trouble controlling the trex450 in the Sim but also been flying the SIM for 8 months now.
It is much harder to control then my real trex....

When you hover, is it completely stationary or does it still move around a bit? It would be great if you do a quick recording of a steady hover so that we can see what we should be aiming for! It would be much appreciated ;)

Here you go...I have zero expo and this thing is definitely twitchy as you can see....a little over correction and it takes off...My real Trex is so much more stable...nothing like this one.

Thanks for that 528hemi. They are twitchy and it is good to know that the real TREX is more stable. Certainly eases my mind a bit.

I can hold my real Trex rock solid steady.....The mini Titan sport is closer to the real thing and even then the real thing is more solid...Again, I have the Gorilla gear paddles with full weight in..When I take them out or take half out, it might become more twitchy...

Here is a hover with the Titan Sport...This is closer to the real thing...When I flipped to go inverted I forgot that this heli is not set up for Negative pitch :)

That looks a lot easier, I will give it a try. Thanks for your time in recording these flights.

You hover better inverted than you do normally
