View Full Version : Couple of questions before maiden flight tomorrow

I just purchased my 300x today at my local hobby store ($409 after tax..ouch). While looking the heli over I noticed a couple of things that are concerning me.
First of all I used my align digital pitch gauge and found the blades to vary between -1 degree all the way up to 2 degrees while at mid stick (50% on pitch curve on my dx8). The readings would vary depending on weather the blades were perpendicular or parallel to the boom. The highest numbers would appear when the blades ran parallel to the boom. Did u guys take the time to check blade pitch? What were your results?
Second - I found that my ar7200bx is mounted at a slight upward angle. The manual for my micro beast states that it should be mounted perfectly flat. How does yours look? 333991
Also the dials on my ar7200bx seem to have been adjusted. Every beastx I have ever owned (3) has always had all the dials in the center. We're your dials adjusted similar to mine? 333992
My last concern is with the servos. They appear to be mounted kind of crooked. Is that how they are supposed to be?333993
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Salmans21,
1- Check linkage length to blade grip
2- don't worry about beastx, mine is the same way settled
3- Dials are already adjusted so you can 3D out of the box
4- same servo mounting on mine
Good maiden flight
Sorry for my english:oops:

My beastx is mounted the same as yours.
My beastx dials are exactly in the same orientations as yours for all three.
My servos are mounted the same as yours.

Thanks guys!! Already starting to feel more at ease about the maiden tomorrow. Align digital pitch gauge can be extremely sensitive...I dint think I'm going to mess with the blade pitch unless it doesn't fly steady.

3- mine had a little bit different setup
4- same servo mounting on mine, still thinking this is very odd, but the crowd says it's alright and we know what this means

Personally I plan to remove the cable tie that is tilting the 7200BX. You really want this flat, not tilted up. Tilting will mix the controls, maybe not a lot, but still it is there. I think this is just a mistake in the assemble, No reason to crank that hard on the cable tie, especially at that location, there is no (or little) shelf that is holding on the 7200BX. That is causing the tilt, IMHO.
I wanted to try a spool up, just to see how the slow spoolup works on the ESC. Took off the blades and flipped to I1. I have setup "normal" to just be 0-0-0-0-0. I don't fly in normal on my other governed helis, so I thought I'd just disable normal here too. Anyhow the spoolup went fine.
For grins I put my MIP driver shaft through the blade screw hole and noticed my midstick was't zero pitch (driver shaft wasn;t parallel to the main shaft). However the servo arms looked great, and the follower arms were also at 90 degrees. So just unscrewed both swash-grip links a single turn, and now the pitch looks "good enough".

How's your maiden flight?
I have couple flights on mine, my dials of the AR7200bx are same as in your pic, I program the DX8 except the throttle curve which is from the addendum sheet and did the pre-flight checks following the manual. She flys great at the stock setup, the control is pretty responsive, flips and rolls are fast, the tail holds great in fast backward circuits, very stable in 15+ mph wind. The only thing I don't like is kind of noisy for a small heli.

My 300 is set up the same way as your heli I did turn #2 screw down to slow the swatch plate but after 2 flights I turned it back up to it's original position. My 300 flies just fine, it does not need any adjustments for the first few flights, just get it out of ground effect and it will fly great.

Thank for all the help guys!!! Maiden flight was beautiful!! Super steady and handled great. I even felt comfortable enough to do a couple of flips and rolls on the very first flight (did not feel comfortable enough with my 130x to do 3d on maiden flight). I charged my Lipo and went back out for my second flight. Perfect take off once again...rock steady in the air....and then POP!!! Luckily u was only 2 feet off the ground because the heli went down right after the loud pop. What was it? Main shaft split cleanly into 2 pieces right where the bolt above the main gear goes. 334101
I have no idea why it happened but horizon is sending me a new main gear.
I did notice that my belt was very tight...any way that the tight belt may have caused this??

I hadn't thought of that, would a tight belt contribute to an unusual side loading on the main shaft, contributing to this type of failure?

Well I guess it could, if the belt was really tight. The force is being applied right at that point.
If this was so (and I'm not sure if it is), the fact that when the hole lines up at right angle to the belt pulling direction, you could imagine the shaft flexing a little, since the strength would be less in that direction. That happens twice a main shaft revolution.
I suppose it depends on the shaft, especially if it had any defect.

I think it can come from the fact that the frame is weak around main shaft:
Because of that, main shaft can bend and break at its weak point
You'll be able to find here 2 mods that help a lot: stevebaker's one for the frame and honkytown's one for tighting the servos in the frame

The antenna cables must be at a right angel, dont cable tie those two together.

Very good catch----good eye---I can't believe I missed it----those antennas have to be at 90deg to each other. BTW I checked my main shaft last night after reading here and there is play at the main gear bolt so that needs to changed. I have about 25 flights without failure but it only a matter of time before the shaft breaks.
