Ok, after some problems with gyro (found out that the CSM SL560 doesn't play well with the gasser, but the Futaba GY-601 plays very well!) I finally got my Gasser in the air this past weekend. Fast and smooth! Can't wait to really start playing with it as the motor gets broken in...

Wait wait... the CSM 560 doesn't play well with the gasser?

I'm picking up a gasser soon, and I was leaning toward the 560 Micro. What's going on with the gyro?

Buddy...All I know is that I couldn't even get the tail to begin to hold with the SL560 micro...it was all over the place...I put a GY-601 in it and it holds like a rock...

At Clintstones B-day Bash in GA a couple weeks ago I was just getting the gasser set up and the tail was driving me nuts...Chris Bergen showed up and before he even saw the gasser he asked iwhat gyro I was using...as soon as I said it was a CSM 560 gyro...he gave me that look....then told me he had never seen one work very well on a gasser. I know that a JR 500T/ 8700G works well (Wolfdad uses this gyro on his) as does the GV-401/9254 (I believe that is what Gary Travis is using).

Gyro mounting on the gasser is critical...I am use to lightly putting a piece of velcro around the gyro sensor to ensure that it stays put...this didn't work well with the gasser either. How I have it mounted now is the metal plate attached with the Zeal green gell and the the 601 sensor mounted to the metal plate with the stock Futaba gyro tape...was going to try using the Zeal stuff only but only had enough left laying around to mount the metal plate.

But...I had a lot of fun with the gasser today! Although the PUH260 isn't even close to being broken in I was doing rolls, flips, inverted circuits and hovers, etc...most of this quite high up...it takes me a good 30 or more flights really start trusting a new heli/motor... :thumbup:

I am building a Intrepid 90 right now and am going to give the CSM SL560/JR 8700G one more try in the 90 before I give up on the CSM! If it doesn't play well I will get another 601 and I know it will. :mrgreen:

Dang it! I knew the 540 didn't play well with gas, but I had my hopes set on a nice, new 560 Micro!

I have a 401/9254 on my R50, but I've never had full faith in it since it went hard over on me once. A 601 would be nice, but I don't want to plunk down that kind of $$$, and I hate the fact that The Empire doesn't build a digital servo for use at 6 volts! (I prefer 6 volts, even though some think I'm nuts.)

If you can't get that 560 Micro to behave, It looks like I'll have to swallow my pride and go with a 401 again. :arggg: Stupid Futaba...

Buddy, like a lot of people I really believe that the "hard over" problem that people are seeing is all battery related. I am using a 401/9254 in my turbine and I don't have any concerns about it. This turbine is going to be a 1/5 scale Long Ranger soon and will be flown with the 401. I am planning on puchasing a 3D capable turbine in the near future and that one will have a 601 in it...mostly for no other reason that I like the 601...the gentle 3D that the turbine will see a 401 would be fine...

Hi Buddy,

I have not run 6V, but I run 5.6 regulated Duralite volts in one of my helis with all digitals and a 601 and GV-1 and it works fine for the last year or so. I think Shannon has 5.6V regulators in all his machines to with no problems.

Hi Buddy. Greg is right about the 401. Both Gary and I are using the 401 in our observers and have had no problems at all, in fact I ordered another one for the other Observer that I purchased for my work.

Greg glad you got that worked out. I remember reading one of Chris's post about the csm gyro's so I never even tried it and just went right to the 401. Now don't laugh but I have a 601 in my .30 size heli. It was all I had at the time ok. :roll:

Troy...I will be out in SLC sometime around the 8th of March for a couple of days...probably will fly in on Wednesday and leave on Friday...

Not sure how much free time I will have but I would think I can sneek away for at least a little while for a meal and beer while I am there....will have to get together with you and Gary... :hug:

OH...Nix the 560/8700 going into the Intrepid 90...just sold it to a friend to put it in a Logo 10 (I think that is where it is headed) have another 601 headed to the house for the 90... :happyd

I am using the 500t ring lock with a Fut. 9254 on the Intrepid. Works like a charm. I have used the 401 in the Intrepid without problems, just had the 500t at the time so gave it a try and have not had reason to change yet.

Hey Greg have you tried a 9254 servo with Mirco 560 CSM, I got 3 heli's with them on it,1 Fury Extreme and 2 Rappy 50's,used metal plate for Fury but on Rappy 50's just gyro tape

Hey Ray...yeah I know you have a knack with the 560...I don't have the patience to play with it to get it performing to its full potential...I want to mount it and fly...

I thought I would give it a try...and I did, wasn't for me and I already sold it...

I am sure it would work fine on the 90 but as far as I know no one has had great results with the micro 560 on a gasser...

Yeah Chris Gary keeps bustin my chops about having that in a .30 :oops:
I got a real nice OS .70 from Gary so now I just need to get up some cash and place my order for the Intrepid .60 Can't wait for Bama :D It snowed like hell last night so I'm out in my car handeling crashes :arggg:

Troy...Just wrote up the orders for our team...Change of Dates..I should be arriving at SLC at 1030 on Sunday the 6th and flying out on Tuesday the 8th in the Evening.

And yes if you have something I could "mount and try" while out there I sure wouldn't complain! :twisted: :banana :thumbup:

what were the CSM 560 micros doin?
I have a few CSM gyros and I prefer them.

I am gettin a EB soon would the 560 micro hold the tail at all? I like the instructions for CSM and the setup sequence.

id be very sad to not use CSM on my future flagship heli!

In fact!!! I have been slowly piecing together a Intrepid 50 i bought NIB from a fellow years ago. it is a older version Intrepid 50 that came with Yale hobbies wood 600mm blades! I prob wont use the woodies on it, but Larry told me once that not much has changed on the 50 through the years.

I will shoot some pics and post em in a few weeks.

All it has left to finish is the tail servo/conrod

it has:
Webra 52 AAR
CSM micro 560/9253
9202 servos on the swash.

heli is totally stock, and I am really excited to get this puppy flyin as I have been sittin on it while I have been traveling for the AF for a quite a few years now.

intrepid 50s are rare it seems.
